So Matt Cutts from Google has let the cat out of the bag according to Search Engine Land.

Google’s head of search spam, Matt Cutts, said on Twitter yesterday that Google won’t be pushing out a new Google Toolbar PageRank update this year.

Niels Bosch asked on Twitter if we should expect an update to PageRank before 2014. In response to that, Matt Cutts said, “I would be surprised if that happened.”

It has now been 8 months since the last Google Toolbar PageRank update. In fact, the last update was on February 4, 2013 and honestly, I think PageRank is finally dead – at least the Toolbar PageRank.

To be honest, hip hip hooray!!

There has been too much obsession with PageRank over the years, me included! With so many factors now, from linking profiles to over optimisation, having a green bar staring at you that never updates is far from productive! Forget it and move on

That's good
We can analyze the current trends and make proper strategy. Because of rapid updates we can't define the exact methods that improve keyword rankings in search engines as well.

I agree with the sentiment to forget Pagerank and move on.

With the sporadic updates, (and the fact when buying used domains Pagerank is actually an unreliable metric), it doesn't make sense to dwell on what the green bar has to say for itself.

Moz Page Authority and Domain Authority, and the Majestic SEO Trust and Citation flows are far more useful in gauging the health and strength of a site in my experience.
