What is on page optimisation?

Hi,

im trying to get my website up amongst the top of google at the moment. I know about twitter and social media and using keywords but can someone tell me exactly what is on-page optimisation?

Title tags, meta tags, CONTENT, internal linking, site structure, URL's to name a few

In On page optimization there are some changes are done by webmaster on the page to get better ranking in search engine like:
Title optimization according keywords
Meta Description and keywords
Alt tag optimization if website has image
Use of H1 tags
Use of bold, italic, underline
Keyword density
java script, css optimization
sitemap creation
hidden text, broken link, robots.txt checking, canonical Issue
Content optimization etc..

But off page optimization is more important than on page optimization for better ranking in search engine.
