I wonder if anyone can enlighten me if this is happening to you
I will admit my telephone number (freephone and 0844 number) are out there on the net along with my website and email etc.. but since signing up yesterday to My Local Forums, I have been slam dunked by companies..
Is this a current problem ?
I first got a call from a company acting on behalf of a charity for cancer and they produced a magazine etc etc advert sell.. the problem with this is I was interested to support as it was for charity and was not that bothered if actual work from advert came in. But after the long chats and then the checking I found this company were a right con artist. So canceled asap !!!
Then a couple of minutes later , I got a call from a number very close to my last caller, asking if I would like to sign up for a local police magazine and advertise.. which I said mmm NO !!
Then again I was rang by another company trying to sell me google space
Then another trying to sell me what sounded like Google Ad Words but without me doing it and paying them to do it for me
So I thought I would put this out to you guys, if you have had the same or is it that time of Year ????

Then again I was rang by another company trying to sell me google space” Hi Mark I assume you mean when you signed up with My Local Services, our Business Directory? I've just checked, and you have taken a free listing, which currently shows 12 pageviews. Unless we have done really well and had the page indexed onto Google straight away, it's unlikely this to be causing the calls. Have you signed up with any other directories? The reason I ask is that we were indeed getting hit by the rip off companies you mentioned: http://www.mylocalforums.com/general-business-news-help-discussion/1493-harvesting-telephone-numbers-vision-aka-vardis-beware.html and also Yell of all people!! http://www.mylocalforums.com/general-business-news-help-discussion/1720-harvesting-telephone-numbers-yell-com.html But Yell and Vision/Vardis have assured me it won't happen any more, and we plant occassional fake listings to check and catch companies out who solicit our customers, and these haven't been triggered recently. The primary target though has always been our paid Lifetime Listings, as they show up on our home page, and not the free listings. Unfortunately most of the directories get hammered like this, and all the professional ones would never sell or pass your details on. If you did sign up with other directories, then I would contact them as they need to be made aware. If you haven't signed up with anyone else, and it was just us, let me know, and I will investigate further, as we will threaten anyone with legal action who harasses our listings, and take it extremely seriously. 
Thanks for the reply, with regards to the first link you gave, the two examples are the companies that's called me , vision for a charity FFFC and some police magazine. Upto now I get one here and there but I got as I said slammed the day I signed up and as its the same type of company, could this be them breaking rules again !! If you have any update that would be great, plus I have gone to my other listings and emailed them just in case it was slipping in that way. Thanks again
okdokey, like I say, nothings been triggered, but I will sow a few more fake seeds, just in case, then standby with a big mallet. Wish this charity scam would just get closed down once and for all.
