Some people may find this blog I did recently useful for link building:

The Panda update seems to have hit content scrapers, affiliate sites, general duplicate or poor quality content.

If your site falls into any of these categories, then address the issue. Revise any linking or SEO strategies, if you've willingly linked to bad neighbourhoods, then these could be a reason.

Any quick fixes like "submit to 5000 directories for $30" will have hurt people as well. Professionalism and quality now finally outweigh spam and a quick buck

Very true. No longer can you just buy bulk links and expect to rank, times have changed! Link building is often a very slow process if you want it done right, also it very much depends on the type of niche or market you are in.

For example, some markets can just write blogs or create linkbait, or for some markets like the service industry, it can be a little more difficult depending on the types of services you provide.

The best bet is to find out what your competitors are doing, and also reach out to other webmasters who have content that coincides with yours, and try to build a relationship with them, and in the end, get a link.

You can build back links with the help of Off page SEO techniques like directory submission, article submission, forum posting, blog commenting, soc ial bookmarking and guest posting.
