I was in the market for a piece of software recently, and was evaluating a number of different products, all which were the usual 30 day trials, and one of them emailed a discount coupon, offering a voucher code with 25% off if I signed up at the end of the trial period.
Quite a neat trick, as it gave the illusion that you had a credit ready and waiting. Unfortunately the product itself didn't perform so I didn't buy it, but if it had matched up to its competition, then that could have been a decisive point.
Although voucher codes are as old as the hills, it's the first time I've seen it used like this and thought it was quite a good idea.
Would it tempt you, or is software functionality or a particular vendor more important?
Hmm, not sure it would give me the illusion of having a credit already, but as long as it functioned as I wanted it then if it's cheaper then why not? Obviously, you may need to consider any support costs that may be requried etc. But if 25% off the price was cheaper than all the others then yes I would buy, unless there was a similar product that did the same and I'd had great service from them in past or some other reason to pay a bit more....
Agree Discount codes are old hat. I am surprised a search engine hasn't had the idea of displaying discount codes when someone searches. An idea would be, if you where looking for shoes, you would get the necessary websites, but also a list of discount codes for shoes.
“An idea would be, if you where looking for shoes, you would get the necessary websites, but also a list of discount codes for shoes.” I like it ![]()
Now if you were a tight old so-n-so like me, you wouldn't buy anything without checking out the discount voucher sites first! (which are like a discount voucher search engine really) They save me a fortune ![]()
That would be a good idea, check a load of discount codes websites in one go.
Thanks, but can't see anyone nicking it, the search engine people wouldn't see the potential.
Discount codes can lure in more leads for different types of businesses but it can be a disadvantage for the companies only after a one off sale other than companies who do a number of sales throughout the customer and business connection
depend on the price, if the price is too high even after 25% discount it might still be too high... the price has to match what the buyer perceives it to be worth... BoBo_184
Discount codes or coupons, also called voucher codes, are not old hat. They're very popular. I always search around for one if I find a site uses them. It's an old marketing tactic, certainly. And its still around because it works. Reg Addking |
