Another scam as old as the hills, but still going strong and tends to catch out the unwary or inexperienced business owners.

If you get told that someone else is trying to register your domain name or brand name in China/Russia/Asia etc etc and blah blah official domain agency is handling the requests and needs your authorisation, don't be sucked in, just delete.

Unless you plan on doing business overseas, in which case sort out your own domain names in the relevant countries.

Here is an example of the type of rubbish doing the rounds:

Dear President or CEO,

We are an agency for registering domain names authorized by Chinese government. Today, we received an application from MACP Global Ltd applying to register mylocalservices as their brand name and some top-level domain names(.CN .HK etc). After our initail checking, We found the main body of domain names is same as yours.

We are handling the application and we need to confirm whether or not you authorize them to register them? Let me know your positon ASAP so as to solve it promptly. Looking forward to your reply.

Yep - I am getting 3 or 4 a week of these - go straight in the junk box !

Same old reinforcement of our previous post Charity & Police Mag scam, never agree to anything on the first call/email and be very wary of overseas things as JW says
