Euro 2016 - a predictable English performance

Once again the performance of our national football team underwhelms our expectations, and another manager falls on his sword.

So with the cream of England's footballing talent, plucked from a population of 53 million, we were trounced by Iceland, who have a population of 330,000  Credit where credit is due, well done Iceland

Maybe footballers should be paid less, or just make it performance related?

You just need to change the rules a bit. Although you have to pick players that WANT to play for England (Saw it in the documentary somewhere that some England players will do anything NOT to play) ...Instead of being contracted to a club they need to be contracted to the national side, then and only then do you stand a chance

Why do we bother?

I suggest we don't bother showing up for any international matches - lets save ourselves the embarrassment

Lets also put the £3.5million salary paid to the manager to good causes and scrap any match fees the players get paid, lets be honest they don't need it in addition to their salaries.

To be honest, I very rarely watch it.....  Prefer to watch the women's football, probably because they believe they have something to prove...... Not sure what the opposite of a wag is.... But I'd be up for it...

I don't think they get paid for playing for England do they? Maybe I am wrong though. They get paid way too much at club level that is for sure. They aren't passionate enough about the national team it seems....the performances were dire. Woy was a joke though, seemed far too sweet to be a manager. The team doesn't play together enough in my opinion and the pressure heaped on them just can't be handled.

I don't get excited watching England that's for sure, too many years of disappointment!

Yep they unfortunately do.

They got £1500 per qualifying win, £1000 for drawing and still £500 for losing and naturally all of their expenses are covered.

Peanuts compared to their normal salaries but they should be there for pride not payment imho.

BTW, had they won the competition they would have EACH pocketed a bonus of £750,000 - not bad for kicking a ball around, tripping over a blade of grass and crying in pain, whilst trying to cheat the ref by claiming they hadn't kicked the ball out of play. Great pieces of acting though

As I have said before ,yes they should be playing for pride ( Can I take the Springboks as an example) For one of the players to be picked it is almost 1 of the greatest moments of the players life. It's what they strive for every matched to be picked for the national side .I think every player has a team they love playing for but the national side comes first

My late uncle, who preferred the oval ball and cricket, had a rather simplistic solution.

Basic weekly salary plus bonus of £3 for a win, £2 for a score draw, £1 for a no-score draw and just the basic pay for losing.  This was before rugby union went professional and Kerry Packer introduced big money to cricket.

My uncle was a successful businessman and had no time for people who didn't pull their weight.

I hear England is in the final of Euro 2016 .......... It's the ref ..Or is that below the belt
