New Laws 2017! 3rd January 2017 9:04 AM

Hi all, something to just be aware of for business purposes and non business purposes. Some Laws in Britain have changed!

1. Minimum wage is going to be increased- the minimum wage for workers over 25 will increase to £7.50, for workers aged 21-14 the wage will increase to £7.05 and for 18-20 the wage will increase to £5.60. This is said to still be under what workers need to be able to afford the living costs of the UK however the government are still working on possibly increasing this by more in the near future.

2. Booster seats will now be banned for smaller children- The law currently states that children under the age of 12 years old should sit on a booster seat whilst travelling in the car however the law has now changed and they are now banning backless booster seats to improve safety. Children shorter than 125cm and those who weigh less than 22kg will have to use the high backed child seat until they are 12 years old. Drivers who continue to use the backless booster seats will be able to until March 2017 then they must comply to the law.

3. Tobacco selling- All tobacco packets now have to be packaged in dark green packets to avoid them looking at all attractive, also the selling of packets of 10 cigarettes and pouches of tobacco smaller than 30g will also be banned, this law hopes to reduce the number of smokers across the EU by 2.4 million.

4. Taxing your car could cost a lot more- From April 2017 only 100 per cent electric cars will be exempt from road tax. Every other vehicle will be charged at a tiered first-year rate based on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and a £140 flat fee for every year after that. This is bad news for those looking to buy a low emission petrol or diesel car, which currently attract no road tax if they have CO2 emissions of fewer than 130g/km. If you already own a car, or will be buying one registered before April 2017, there will be no changes to how much you pay.

5. Reducing the amount of homeless- Sajid Javid, the Communities Secretary, recently announced the Government’s support for strengthening councils’ duties to stop people ending up on the streets. The reforms to anti-homelessness laws would place a duty on local authorities to secure accommodation for people at risk of homelessness. The private members’ bill, brought by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, is being debated by MPs this month.

Sony hacked and one angry Britney 29th December 2016 10:41 AM

We all know there have been a lot of sudden deaths in the last week of many well known celebrities, like I said in my previous post I don't think 2016 has really been the best year in regards to celebrity deaths.

However it also hasn't been the best year in regards to the hacking of large companies, the last few weeks has seen the hacking of companies such as Yahoo and TalkTalk. In today's news we learn of the hacking of the huge company Sony.

These big companies really need to knuckle down on their security as Sony Music's twitter account has been hacked in the last few days with tweets such as 'Britney Spears is dead by accident!' with hashtags such as #RIPBritney. This I feel is getting beyond stupid as because of the recent deaths of celebrities these tweets left Britney fans in the loop, wondering if this was actually true.

The singer herself has not responded directly to the tweets however her managed has made a statement on the social media site stating the singer is 'fine and well'. Sony have directly apologised for these outrage of tweets.

I think all these huge companies need to knuckle down on security as in my opinion this has now reached its maximum.

Berlin driver shot dead! 23rd December 2016 1:48 PM

As we all know the tragedy in Berlin resulting in twelve people killed has left the world shocked and heartbroken, with so little time until Christmas it was very devastating for many.

It has been announced on the BBC only twenty minutes ago that the driver of the lorry was found in Sesto San Giovanni  early hours of this morning and has been shot down by Italian police after the suspect was asked  for identification; when asked to provide the ID the suspect took out a gun and shot two police man.

Following the shooting of the suspect, he was identified through the matching fingerprints.

So I guess there has been some justice for the families and friends of those who were killed and injured.

ITS CHRISTMAS 23rd December 2016 9:47 AM

Well technically is not Christmas yet- but hey ho its close enough ay

That's it then with Christmas eve tomorrow it won't be long before we are all sat with our feet up tucking in to our chocolates. I hope we have all finished our shopping because retail is going to be rammed! I spent two hours in Tesco yesterday just trying to get a secret Santa present, I've got to say it looked like a competition on who could fill their trolley with the most food

I can safely say I am now wearing my halo and do feel prepared for the occasion

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day and enjoy it-  remember it only happens once a year so don't be afraid to go mad!!!

IKEA sleepovers 22nd December 2016 10:13 AM

We have all heard of IKEA, with branches all over the world the store is a huge success.

However in recent stories it seems that the store have been facing troubles. The troubles being about 'illegal sleepovers'.

'Illegal sleepovers' meaning young teenagers actually hiding in the wardrobes that the store sell during opening hours and not being found before the store closed. The teenagers are then coming out of the wardrobes like someone out of Narnia and thinking its right to use the stores furniture for sleeping. These teenagers are not homeless and are using the store to host drinking games and to take advantage of the freedom in general.

This has not just happened in one store, but has happened in stores in the US, Canada, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Japan, Australia and Poland. Just makes you wonder how good the security of the store really is, does it need to push for better security in order to stop this from happening?

Berlin Tragedy 20th December 2016 8:58 AM

Terrible news to hear about the tragedy in Berlin, especially this close to Christmas

German police are investigating a "probable terrorist attack" after a man ploughed a lorry into a Christmas market in the heart of Berlin, killing 12 people and injuring 48.

The driver has been reported as a Muslim asylum seeker therefore they are saying the likelihood of it being a terrorist attack is very high.

My thoughts go out to all the families and friends of those who were killed and injured, not a very nice time to be losing loved ones.

When will this heartache stop.

R.I.P to those who were killed.

The Grim Reaper makes his mark on 2016 16th December 2016 9:25 AM

2016 has seen the death of twice as many celebrities in 2015 and five times as many in comparison to 2012!! I don't think we can really say that this year has been the best in regards to famous idols going out with their boots on.

This year has seen iconic members of the celebrity world depart; including David Bowie, Prince, Harper lee, Alan Rickman, Nancy Reagan, Muhammad Ali,Sir George Martin, Victoria Wood, Leonard Cohen and a few more.

'Dropping like flies' this year as the expression goes. Well I guess its certainly a year the celebrity world will remember- the question is should they look forward to 2017 or fear that we may be sitting here at the end of next year with the stats being even higher.
