Hi all, something to just be aware of for business purposes and non business purposes. Some Laws in Britain have changed!
1. Minimum wage is going to be increased- the minimum wage for workers over 25 will increase to £7.50, for workers aged 21-14 the wage will increase to £7.05 and for 18-20 the wage will increase to £5.60. This is said to still be under what workers need to be able to afford the living costs of the UK however the government are still working on possibly increasing this by more in the near future.
2. Booster seats will now be banned for smaller children- The law currently states that children under the age of 12 years old should sit on a booster seat whilst travelling in the car however the law has now changed and they are now banning backless booster seats to improve safety. Children shorter than 125cm and those who weigh less than 22kg will have to use the high backed child seat until they are 12 years old. Drivers who continue to use the backless booster seats will be able to until March 2017 then they must comply to the law.
3. Tobacco selling- All tobacco packets now have to be packaged in dark green packets to avoid them looking at all attractive, also the selling of packets of 10 cigarettes and pouches of tobacco smaller than 30g will also be banned, this law hopes to reduce the number of smokers across the EU by 2.4 million.
4. Taxing your car could cost a lot more- From April 2017 only 100 per cent electric cars will be exempt from road tax. Every other vehicle will be charged at a tiered first-year rate based on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and a £140 flat fee for every year after that. This is bad news for those looking to buy a low emission petrol or diesel car, which currently attract no road tax if they have CO2 emissions of fewer than 130g/km. If you already own a car, or will be buying one registered before April 2017, there will be no changes to how much you pay.
5. Reducing the amount of homeless- Sajid Javid, the Communities Secretary, recently announced the Government’s support for strengthening councils’ duties to stop people ending up on the streets. The reforms to anti-homelessness laws would place a duty on local authorities to secure accommodation for people at risk of homelessness. The private members’ bill, brought by Conservative MP Bob Blackman, is being debated by MPs this month.
