The recent 'The Romanian's are coming?' documentary on BBC 1's 'Panorama' helped clear some of the misconceptions that exist about that country.
Amongst other things, it highlighted the fact that thanks to the outstanding performance of its IT industry, Romania has consolidated its position as an outsourcing hub in Central Eastern Europe.
Romania is home to an abundance of professionally very well prepared and highly skilled labor pool that has a better understanding of Western European culture than their Asian counterparts.
Looks like India now has some healthy competition...
There's definately a lot of media sterotyping, with conjured up images of Romanian gypsy caravans heading West, and worries of floods of unskilled labour pouring into the eurozone. But some of it I think comes from genuine concern, looking at the sharp rise over the last few years of East European lower skilled workers in some areas, with added pressure on local services. Even our local Tescos and Morrisons has a Polish Isle, and we've got a few East European Neighbours, who seem to operate submarine shifts, going by the number of cars/adults versus bedrooms ![]()

I can't wait to welcome them all..... Do we need more migrants in the UK? No we don't. If you want to reduce the unemployment figures and remove this country's work shy dependency on benefits, then it seems ludicrous to bring more people into the country. All of these people will require housing, healthcare and their children education, putting aside the argument of whether or not these people have contributed to the system or not. This country can not offer it's own citizens proper housing (majority of social housing, now all sold off) The education system has plummeted, where you either have second rate teachers or classrooms with children in whose English is so poor they hold the rest of the class back as the teachers have to spend more time with individual pupils. If you want to see your GP because your ill you have to make an appointment and you currently have people on trolleys waiting in A & E departments as there are no beds available on wards. So my point is, if more people come to the UK then there will be more of a demand for these basic services........ And we can't cope now with what we have.... ![]() Thanks, Barney
lol certainly allowed, and the kids like to work out what things are. To be fair I think it's more of a mix of Latvian, Estonian and Polish looking at some of the labels.
I think Barney raise the right point as this will not be a great thing for British people itself. There will be all sorts of trouble. Yes, definately one may call it a kind of insecurity. Infact I think migrant policy is not so good in UK itself and perhaps this may be the reason why localides are finding less oppertunities compare to some others. There was a news in "Guardian" some months ago that "Disney World" can keep the better track record of it's visitors than Britain. Though I have read it too that such migrants from other Eu nationals will not be able to claim the "out of work" benefits for three months at least. In Addition, there are chances to increase the Crime rate too because according to figures in duration of 2008-2012 Romanians were the second most likely nationality to get arrested in London. Well, their first stop off point will be London so it will be interesting to see how long it takes them to spread their wings throughout the rest of the country. I saw somewhere that around 29 million could in theory arrive on our shores. If only 10% of that figure arrived we are going to have some serious problems to overcome in this country. I think many British people feel let down by our so called political leaders who seem to have embraced the idea that multiculturalism is the way forward. If only that were true, in London what you have is ghettos of different nationalities gradually springing up all over the place, this in turn forces those families who have lived there for generations to move out, to somewhere more English. I guess you could call it a race issue, but you cannot force a country to be multicultural, even those coming here don't necessarily want to be in a multicultural society, they want what they can get out of it, which is again usually either monetary gain, health care, housing or education anything that does not form art of their culture then barriers start going up and demands of special treatment are asked for, which in turn gets tensions rising. London has always had a mixture of different people, people from different countries arrived gradually over long periods of time. Now with modern transport the way it is 1000s can descend in a matter of days. Those who are in Parliament are there to represent the electorate who voted for them, I think over the last 20 - 30 years they have let both the voters and democracy down. Anyone who believes that the forthcoming influx of migrants are coming here to embrace the British culture and way of life are clearly of their rockers ![]() Thanks, Barney |
