The UK Government, sometimes they really are a bunch of idiots!

"The government made a mistake in advising people to store petrol in jerrycans at home to prepare for a possible strike by fuel tanker drivers, a transport minister has said...."
BBC News - Fuel strike threat: Maude's jerrycan advice 'a mistake'

So the actual fuel strike hasn't started yet, but already panic buying brought on by ridiculous government statements has already caused chaos

After fuel queues this morning, it looks like the garages in Stratford are now dry...

Anyone one else seeing any shortages?

I heard a story on the radio yesterday about a lady who drove to her supermarket, one of those that also sells petrol. She only went to shop, but noticed that the petrol forecourt was chaos.

Apparently, there had been a delivery tanker attempting to fill up the pumps. He had placed the usual cones around his area. The car drivers were in such a panic to get their petrol, that they began moving the cones to such an extent that the tanker driver was unable to do his job and he had to drive away. These silly drivers had actually caused the empty pumps all on their own.

Thankfully I live within a 1/4 mile of 8 petrol stations, so no queues. I was also fortunate to put

The government have been so irresponsible, telling people to fill jerrycans and store them in the garage, just an accident waiting to happen! There has already been a situation where a women has been sent to hospital with 40% burns as she was handling petrol, first of many I recon.

One of the governments greatest ever achievements, convincing us that petrol is an absolute essential, when all we really need is oxygen, water and glucose to get around!

As much as I dislike this Government, you can not blame it for peoples own stupidity. Most people learn from a very early age that petrol is inflammable. If it catches light it burns and damn well hurts. No one in their right mind would or should empty cans of fuel from one can to another can indoors, even more so in a kitchen with a lit gas oven She may well have thought that if she was carefull pouring the liquid then all would be ok. But they do teach you at a very early age in science lessons that it is the vapour that is inflammable and not the liquid. Go to any fuel forecourt everyone of them has signs saying 'No naked flames' The same rule applies at home and indoors when handling any fuel....

Barney

Yeah I agree, it isn't just the governments fault, some people are stupid enough to do this, but the idea should not have been put forward in the first place, I wouldn't be very happy if my neighbor went out and bought 40 litres of petrol, because if it did set fire, it would not only blow his house up, it would probably blow mine up too!
