Review of the Week 15th December 2016 5:28 PM

We do get some funny reviews come through, a lot which can't be published on a family friendly site

But saw this one come through yesterday for Doncaster Royal Mail Delivery Office which made me chuckle.

Boxing Day shopping ban? 13th December 2016 10:50 AM

Personally I can't see what the fuss is about. As a long as a business offer adequate financial compensation, and working hours are voluntary not compulsory.

Ubers nail biting business model 13th December 2016 10:32 AM
At £2bn loss - can't see them lasting 10 years - thats an eye watering £20bn (i'm good at maths  ) if they carry on the same losses as last year !

Ahh, now you are sounding like one of the pessimists that wrote Amazon off

I think American investors have deeper pockets and are far braver than us Brits when it comes to risk  I reckon they will crack it, they will pioneer driver-less cars and can see them moving into haulage, home delivery and revolutionising the industry.

What all the taxi and lorry drivers will be doing is a different story
Wheres the rest of the tree? 13th December 2016 10:26 AM
Surely this must be a joke .. I gather it must be a fake tree ..We bought ours from Argos a few years ago and it was fine. These days they have a weird way of attaching the branches around the stem

Looks like they have a bit of a history of sparse trees looking at the reviews  Maybe hit and miss quality control in the Chinese factory? You must have got all the spare branches

Train Service Disruption Chaos 13th December 2016 10:16 AM

Was watching this on the news this morning and feel for anyone caught up in this. Apparently it's compounded by signal failures on some of the tubes, making the London commute a nightmare.

Chris Grayling, the Transport Secretary claimed this morning that the leader of ASLEF, the trade union for train drivers, told him to prepare for a decade of strikes when they first met. If that's true, then it sounds like we are sliding into the dark ages of Trade Unions, where it's not really about standing up for workers rights, but causing political disruption. After all ASLEF is affiliated to the Labour party. Maybe political independence would lend them a louder and more sympathetic voice with the travelling public.

Imagine the outcry if Citizens Advice was affiliated to the Tory party? Or maybe UKIP

I genuinely don't understand the argument though, other than trying to protect jobs. My understanding is they  are striking over who is responsible for opening and shutting train doors? But other services already have drivers responsible for closing train doors, and lets be honest it's not long before we have automated driver-less tube-trains, as already run in other parts of the world.

Haven't travelled on Southern Rail so no idea what they are like, but listening to the media the service seems to be seriously flawed with people losing jobs as the trains are so unreliable. Now sorting that out and fighting for a better service seems something worth striking about, not delaying the inevitable.

Paloma Faith and her NHS experience 9th December 2016 2:30 PM

I dunno, people are quick to knock the NHS (me included), and it certainly has it's faults.

But I have to say the emergency response or minor injuries care tends to be superb, at least from what I have seen with my missus and kids over the years. Once admitted to a ward things tend to go south, particularly in the evenings with blatant staffing problems and high demand of beds. Geriatric care leaves a lot to be desired from what I've seen with older family members.

But I think any woman rushing in with labour pains to an NHS hospital could expect immediate expert care, celebrity or not. But if you are middle aged and turn up on a Friday night with a broken arm, expect a long wait in A&E.

Wonder what Airbus would quote him for a specially modified A380......”
Ha, now that would be a coup!
Airline charges to use overhead lockers 9th December 2016 1:38 PM

I must admit, it is frustrating watch people flouting the cabin baggage size rules with bags that barely or sometimes don't fit in to overhead bins, so seems like a good idea.

The funniest I've seen is coming back from Edinburgh on a  twin prop puddle jumper rather than the advertised jet, with overhead bins the size of postage stamps and baggage crammed under peoples legs as it wouldn't go under the seats.

Where to save energy costs? 9th December 2016 1:32 PM
Are there energy benchmarking tools that could help companies to make data-driven decisions on how and where to save energy costs?”

Hmmm... Maybe I'm being unfair and overly cynical, but somehow I'm waiting for a reply from a company that offers said energy bench-marking tools, probably with a Philippines IP address

I do think King Trump has a nice ring to it

There's enough material for playground humour to keep us going for years
