Not surprisingly heard earlier that Sainsburys sales are down slightly yet profits are up 16.3%, proving to me anyway that they are still fleecing us with prices yet state they are helping us with lower costs.

Fully understand all supermarkets need to make a profit but what really annoyed me was that when people really needed to buy cheaper items like their Basics range, these items seemed to increase more than any other product on the shelf. I dont use a lot of bread so their basic loaf is great to stick in the freezer, yet in the height f the credit crunch seem to recall this being the first item they put up!

Keep seeing in the news that the "big 4" are in a price war on eggs, milk & bread, well its not reached my local yet!

I think all of the main supermarkets have lost a fair proportion of their trade to the likes of Aldi and Lidl and once they've lost them they've lost them for good.

Yep - agree with you once again.

We said the same on the Tesco thread, think people now shop a lot wiser and visit several stores now in search of the bargains - this should hopefully keep prices down !!

I reckon the pricewar is pretty apparent in any supermarket at the moment. If youve got time to shop around then theres plenty of cash to be saved.

I think those that dont can obviously afford the inflated prices in one place!

Definitely agree there are lots of savings to be made if you can make that little effort to give some more time to do your weekly shop

Read in the Daily Mail today that Aldi will be opening 50 - 60 new stores every year until 2021, not sure how many Tesco's or Sainsbury's will be opening or closing in that period

Just seen that Morrisons plan to cut 2600 managers jobs - seems they are going to cull "layers" of managers.

Maybe they can apply for the new stores in Aldi?
