Another idea for unlimited mileage electric cars!

I remember we were bantering about electric cars a while ago in the office and Clive suggested garages where you drive in and swop your flat battery for a replacement...

Well it's a reality! At least in Israel and soon in Holland...

BBC News - Has Israeli firm cracked electric car angst?

"There is a network of dozens of "switch stations" around Israel - they look like a car wash but without nozzles or brushes.

You drive in, and robotics take over - removing the battery from under the car and replacing it with one that has been charged. The switch lasts about five minutes.

The battery weighs 250kg (equivalent to the weight of about three adult men) and it takes up a large space behind the back seat, but there is still plenty of room for luggage as there is no petrol tank."

Sounds like a superb idea, if money can be found for the infrastructure. Wouldn't surprise me to see Google battery stations soon

Any car can go to a petrol station and fill up so we need the same for this.
The key to successfully doing this will be ensuring that all cars are able to use the same concept and not just limited to the few! It's not clear from the article if that will be the case....

yup agreed, unfortunately you know it won't happen like that, it will be competing companies, different standards, with only one eventual winner, who will buy the other one out 5 years later

Only people who will lose will be us mugs that back the wrong horse...

Good to finally see all this electric car innovation, especially around it's nemesis, range!

Again that's a battery and that's why swapping is not an answer in the foreseeable future.
