Here is a great demonstration why Google Apps converting all uploaded documents to HTML is a big fail, if you like to see documents as they were designed.

For us and many people it a pretty big show stopper!

Take a look here

I know Google docs in the past screwed up our word generated templates, so gave up on it pretty quickly. Out of curiosity though, have just checked for the fist time in ages, and the docs are still there, and have been reformatted and actually look alright now.

Also got a message "Google Docs will soon be upgraded to Google Drive. Google Drive will be the new home for your files..."

Maybe they've responded to criticism?

Still take me a lot to prise me away from MS Office though

Google's main problem is the fact that to save space on their servers, they convert almost every item uploaded to HTML and this causes a lot of issues with formatting. I think for some documents it's not that noticeable and forgivable, but others will mean you'll have little choice but to look elsewhere.
I think that Google drive will use the same policies and technology, although I may be wrong.
