Here's a discussion about this very topic:

Free delivery does it make you buy?

Thanks,
Barney

Had to order a new strip bulb for one of the kitchen cupboards, can't get it from any of the high street DIY places, so ordered it from the manufacturer, but the P&P is dearer than the bulb!

In the end ordered 10, figured I'll use them over the next few years and the P&P is the same price as for 1...

Can you offer a cheaper discount if ordering multiple items, and make it attractive that way?

As Barney says, can you really afford to absorb all that P&P cost for such a low cost item?

Well I haven't had my site up for long, so I haven't encountered this problem yet. I suppose at the moment I am trying to build a loyal customer base so I would probably just send out a replacement item to the customer as soon as. Probably not the best thing to do but I just want to keep my new customer's happy.

Years ago, used to do a lot of ebaying. The number of times people will swear blind a package never turned up. Have no doubt some get "lost" in the post, but it got that daft I had to send everything recorded delivery.

Even then stuff "went missing". Then you have to contact the Post Office, who at that time said it takes 30 days for them to try and trace etc. Meanwhile you have a customer swearing blind they've received nothing, even though you're convinced they're pulling a fast one

Gave it up in the end, (well actually got banned, whoops) but I'm afraid you have to plan for the worst and don't rely on peoples good nature. (apart from here, obviously )
