Blackberry - service disruption will be a gift to Apple

Poor Blackberry, suffering from days of worldwide service disruption problems, not exactly the best way to try and win back market share from Apple and the like.

Interesting take on it, some of the bad publicity is due to the number of unhappy high profile people using their service. So having some heavy hitter endorsements can work against you in times of crisis.

lol, shouldn't laugh, but nearly hurt myself Those pesky backup systems, they never work when you need them...

I have heard of a few people muttering under their breath that they should have taken an iPhone instead. I was watching the news, and they explained that a lot of people in SA are being affected by it as well. Ah well, I have the best smartphone on the market, they can keep their BB's. (Seriously. I haven't had a single problem with my iphone since the day I got it.)

Thanks,

Just to even up the balance, my iPhone is currently about as much good as a chocolate teapot

The service provider we use (Vodaphone) seemed to have disappeared from my town...

Reception has gone very bad to worse, to now non existent Missus has had enough and now changed provider, trouble is I'm locked into a 2 year business contract

Still the actual iPhone is great

A classic.

Though if Apple did have issues too, imagine the headlines:

Blackberry & Apple Crumble

Unfortunately I can't take the credit, saw it on Twitter somewhere...

Reminds me of my old days working for a company that will remain nameless.

They had a lighting strike that took out the power supply to the entire town and consequently their mainframe computer that was responsible for their global operations. Normally not an issue as they had a back up power supply. However on that very day it was undergoing it's annual maintenance and was disconnected!

You couldn't write this stuff!!

lol, you wouldn't happen to be an ex IBMer? Have plenty of similar stories, seems the bigger the company, the more likely the backup system or disaster recovery plan will never work as planned.

Better off having a low tech back up solution, a USB hard drive stuck into Bobs laptop. Then accept a couple of days customer outage time, while you restore.

But from the millions they will save from not having an overly complicated and expensive backup system that you know wont work anyway, just send all your customers a sorry we screwed up card with a McDonalds or itunes voucher

No not an old IBM guy. I was actually brought up on ICL back in the days of DME and VME machines.

This Mainframe was HP as I recall.

I remember everyone running around turning lights out because we did have some sort of a connection from the backup generator but because it was in the middle of a service it was running on limited supply

Some people have reported to me that they haven't had an issue with bb messenger but surely that's because there's no one to message!
At times I dislike apple and think i would prefer a blackberry, like last night when it took around 45minutes to upgrade to iOS 5!! >.<
I love my iPhone though, it has been fatastic, i think i got one of the good batch

I saw a funny comment on facebook though, "What if Apples network went down too? I can see the headlines now.. Apple & Blackberry Crumble"

Just realised Mrb beat me to it! :O damn him.
