Not heard anybody mention anything about the Google Chromebook? What do people think of it. Do you think the timing is right? Are people ready to accept applications/software to be in the cloud?

Nice article that touches on it by Maggie Shiels.

I tend to agree that the change will happen but it's a question of when...

...people are comfortable with what they know, but overtime these things can change. For example, take the browsers - it's taken a long time to get people to move away from Internet Explorer but gradually it happened and now we have a spread across 3 main contenders, with Firefox and Chrome being the other 2.

I think it's about time. I reckon this could really take off in the corporate lane, simple business machines, running basic office apps, using cloud based of office based storage.

Imagine the licensing cost savings from not using an MS Operating system and Office Suite, for say a company with 500 or more employees!

yeah, I also feel that I wouldn't enjoy the big boom over night.

But lets see what it would be?

Wow, this is actually the first time I'm hearing about this, surprisingly. Is it it's own unique OS or what? I am a little confused...

Yup it's Googles own O/S, basically cloud based apps, so the idea is less bloatware and faster computing... in theory....

To be fair, I'm a big fan of the Chrome Browser (till it broke on the last update ) so I imagine this will be pretty good.

Bit of a bugger if you've no net connection though

Nice idea, but I would hold on a bit before committing to any purchase, it hasn't caught on yet in the publics imagination, I would go for something like a Android 3.x tablet or Ipad for instant on access to the web

Doesn't appear to have taken off does it? Although, I haven't seen any form of advertisement for the product on TV, etc..

Melanie

hmm, has been very quiet. I think with the Google Panda updates and then operation Google+, this may have been moved into the background for the time being.

Maybe we're not quite ready for an Internet powered lappie just yet, or at least in the UK with our stone age infrastructure...
