I am Programme Director for HMRCs Spring School Development Programme and spent 4 days in Lawress Hall last week with over 90 delegates and facilitators.
From Monday the snow began to fall and the conditions continued to deteriorate over the subsequent 48 hours. This resulted in the vast majority of my team being unable to return home safely on the Wednesday as planned.
Despite the extreme conditions the staff at Lawress Hall were little short of remarkable in their approach and behaviour during out extended stay. Staff battled through the snow and ice to attend for work and some were even 'stranded' at Lawress Hall for the duration. Even though the team had less than a skeleton staff, the service we received was outstanding - Rooms were cleaned, beds were made, meals were cooked, refreshements set out, all with the same puncuality and quality that we often take for granted when visiting Lawress Hall. On top of this, staff were consistently in the car park clearing the snow from cars to help visitors move their vehicles. However, the image that will stay with me most, is the team's attitude. Not once, did I hear a complaint or a gripe. They consistently had smiles on their faces and were attentive to our needs in order to make our prolonged stay as comfortable as possible. Whether I was dealing with reception, the bar staff, restaurant, kitchen chefs or the security guys, the impression I got was that they were there to help and were happy to do so.
Whilst I do not want to single out individuals for praise I feel it is important to mention the staff that I know were in attendance. So, to this end, to Jane, Cath, Nathan, Hywel, Darren, Phil, Dale, Richard, Charlotte, Simon, Jo, Wayne, ALan, Michael, Hazel and Marissa........please accept thanks on behalf of myself and the 'stranded'Spring School delegates. My apologies if I have missed anyone from this list!
You all provided a service above and beyond the call of duty and brought great credit, not only to yourselves, but to Lawress Hall and your company.
I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year, and I look forward to seeing you all in January when the weather, I hope, will be less extreme!
My thanks and Kind Regards
Michael
