I am a Master Blacksmith and specialise in the traditional skills and methods used by blacksmiths for centuries. I use them to craft hand wrought bespoke achitectural and domestic ironwork of the highest standard.

The process usually begins with an initial on site consultation to discuss the clients requirements, their design ideas, and to get a feel for the location. For me it is essential that the design is made with the specific setting of the work in mind. Thus the work blends with and enhances its environment, often picking up on existing design motifs and the general aesthetics. One or more hand drawn designs are produced and sent to the client for consideration. This is not necessarily definitive, merely a starting point from which to develop the design in collaboration with the client.

When the design is finalised the metal is ordered and work begins. Each element of the design is hot forged by hand, giving the work life and vibrancy. The different parts are then assembled, again using traditional methods such as fire welding, rivets and collars. This can be a labour intensive process; craftsmanship takes time. Often the client likes to visit the workshop to see the work in progress. When completed the work can be surface treated as appropriate and delivered or installed.

All maner of objects can be created, from a simple coat hook to large ornate entrance gates. Whether contemporary or traditional in design and whatever the size, I always strive to make the piece to the best of my ability, and to ensure customer satisfaction. This esos of attention to detail, quality of build, custom design and hand crafting using only time honoured traditional techniques, ensures the work is original, vibrant and relavant. This is beneficial in all situations but is critical in historical and ecclesiastical settings, where a pastiche of mass produced components welded together will always look out of place.

In addition to new ironwork I can seemlessly restore and replicate old wrought iron, can conduct a survey on its condition and offer advise on its conservation, and am now also offering one to one tuition in traditional blacksmithing skills.
