Am I spending wisely? 18th August 2013 4:01 PM
Agree with all the comments here and Yell.com are expensive for what you get. I agree with Barney, most people will search via Google first to find services they want...

...and if that fails, My Local Services
Petrol prices going down! 15th April 2013 1:13 PM
I can't remember where I saw it now but I read an article recently that stated petrol is on average the same or cheaper as it has ever been in the past when allowing for inflation.
How safe is your domain? 27th March 2013 5:01 PM
At the end of the day, it's all a bunch of coding so these things are always going to happen.
.....But now explain that to a seasoned builder or accountant who probably gets a lions share of their work as word of mouth, and you will struggle to sell the professional online concept....

Agreed. A lot of these industries are doing fine by word of mouth so whilst they could increase there customer base it's easier to go with what's familiar to them. It doesn't mean it's the correct approach though!

Yes - agree about the email addresses too!
...With all this new found freedom, I've decided to make a bigger effort on my Facebook and Google+ accounts (as well as the forum obviously).

It's been 4 months now - has it been worth it? Or have you just had more time to make more cups of coffee!

Personally I like the shorter posts that you tend to do with forums or social media, plus the more immediate response, which makes you more likely to update a page, rather than let it get neglected.

Agreed.

With this in mind, are new businesses with time at a premium better off simply using a Facebook or Google+ page and linking to that, rather than creating a blog?

Noooo. Well, to clarify, it's not so much about the pros/cons of a blog. It could be other content on your website, but what I find annoying (very!!) is when something appeals to me and I click on the link but if it takes me to Facebook and I have to login - but I don't. Invariably it doesn't appeal to me enough to warrant logging into Facebook. More companies seem to be doing it though. ...is it me?
App Attack! 26th November 2012 1:08 PM
This thread reminds me of the 14 year old boy who "researched mobile software programming in his local library and started creating his new application in November, 2010. It took him about a month to author 4,000 lines of his Bubble Ball game that crept to the top of free games list on Apple iTunes". - Courtesy of wikipedia.

So, as has already been indicated depends on the complexity of what you want! Keep us posted.
Wonder what impact it'll have on our social skills if we all work at home and only deal with people we like?

We may still have to work with people who we'd rather not! thumbsdown Many companies promote home working so the job still has to be done regardless of wherever you're in the office or not.

There will always be a place for offices but yes the needs for them will reduce.
SMS Marketing 30th October 2012 11:05 PM
What does anyone else think?

I've never had an SMS marketing text that I wanted. Just annoying!
Have some adverts had their day? 30th October 2012 10:42 PM
Bloody contextual advertising. First time I noticed it was James Caan from Dragons Den, he seemed to appear on every site I went to, thought he was personally stalking me!

LOL - ...I remember that one and I thought it was me he was stalking!!
Mobile Website? Any Advice? 4th September 2012 6:17 PM
...Do you run any analytics software? It would be a good idea to look at the data and see what traffic you currently receive from mobile devices, this may sway your thoughts.

Definitely - agreed!
