How to save a few quid on security 17th May 2017 10:54 AM

A Facebook post that made me smile

In the light of recent announcements by my local Police force that they no longer consider it necessary to attend the scene of domestic burglaries, I have taken down the St. George's flag from beside the house and peeled the burglar alarm sticker off the front door.

We've taken down the CCTV cameras, disconnected our home alarm system, cancelled its connection to the security monitoring service and quit our Neighbourhood Watch.

Instead, I've bought two ISIS flags on eBay and raised them in the front garden, one at each end.

Now the local police, CID, MI5, MI6, the SAS and other UK Counter Terrorism agencies are all watching the house 24/7.

We've never felt safer and we're saving £24.95 a month...

Standing up for shop assistants 16th May 2017 3:32 PM
One good reason why I won't fly Ryanair is their inability to handle rowdy passengers.

Jet2 is taking the lead with alcohol restrictions.  Unfortunately, cabin crew income is supplemented by on-board sales but airlines really do have to take this more seriously.  ”

I never understood why they just didn't ban booze on budget flights. Didn't realise it was such a revenue earner.

Last Friday was in Iceland minding my own business when loud mouthed pensioner wanted to pay at till but assistant was helping colleague stack freezers....”

I was just about to say whats it like in Iceland as it's somewhere I quite fancy going as it's bit different  Then the penny dropped

This is going to be non-PC and no doubt will get blasted, but we seemed to be getting ruder as a nation. Either average intelligence is diminishing (I blame reality TV) or its due to an ageing population. As we all know you get more cantankerous as you get older, right up to the point of being bomb proof where you just say whatever you want to whoever you want, as the remorse button obviously packs up in the final chapters

Anyone over the age of 60 should be made to use home delivery, or only use supermarkets during business hours, but not lunchtime. I think till rage could be reduced by 80%.

If Corbyn added that to his manifesto, I'd vote for him...

How to improve customer service 16th May 2017 3:17 PM
We're thinking about outsourcing and let an agency handle inquiries and complaints. ”

IMHO bad idea!

If you are talking about outsourcing lead generation, managing social media or maybe reputation management then it can be a good idea. But you get what you pay for and make sure they are working to your style and tone otherwise it would be disastrous.

But to outsource all customer service and complaints is a really scary prospect. Customer service makes or breaks a business, so why would delegate this to a third party?

Most of customer service is as it says on the tin. Be polite, courteous, professional and use common sense. But if you are creating a policy for consumer disputes then the best place to start is the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Trading Standards has this documented with downloadable PDFs here: The Consumer Rights Act 2015

If outsourcing, make sure they fully understand the implications and any complaints procedure is robust and covers the consumer rights act.

Home First Aid Kit 16th May 2017 2:01 PM

Sounds like you are a walking dispensary!

...I have thought about one in my car too for emergency's and as I sell Basic First Aid kits I really should put one in my car just in case.”

I dunno, you sell first aid kits but don't have one in your car

Just come back from a few days of meetings around Scotland, with beautiful sunny weather, now sat in Warwickshire under black skies and torrential rain

Obviously because someone mentioned the "drought" word on the news the other day. No doubt we will now have nonstop rain till November

Home First Aid Kit 12th May 2017 1:41 PM

Julia Julia Julia tsk tsk!

Always have a first aid kit handy. Have just about everything in the house, which gets regular use with two young and active kids  But always have one in the car, never know who might need it.

Halfords are normally a good place to get one for the car, and in the house I've got a big bag of dressings, bandages, tape, savlon, disinfectant wipes, all which you can pick up from the local chemist.

Likewise first aid training, although I'm long overdue some refresher training, everyone is capable of saving a life and should do some form of basic first aid training.

Hmmm maybe something we should do in the office

American also displayed some great customer service skills recently.  However, why a passenger thought she could take her twin buggy onto the aircraft is beyond me.  Travelling alone with twin toddlers and trying to wheel a collapsible buggy along an aircraft aisle is impossible....”

Here the Airlines can send mixed messages. I flew on American Airlines with a toddler and we were told to take the pushchair onto the aircraft and it would be stowed in the cabin by the crew, rather in the hold as we expected. Really made life a lot easier and can't imagine travelling alone with twin toddlers without having them strapped into their buggy.

Although we caused initial confusion when asking if we needed to check in our "pushchair" which caused blank expressions until we pointed at our 6 month old waving back. "Ahh you mean a stroller!"

But other airlines do make you stow pushchairs in the hold.

Could Labour be the right move..? 12th May 2017 9:27 AM

Ahh now if someone has reduced beer prices in their manifesto, then they get my vote whatever the party

Yep I'm that shallow

Dear I feel special..... 5th May 2017 12:38 PM

Mail campaigns seem to catch lots of people out. Most of us have been guilty of it at some point, from typos to wrong fields populated in databases.

If you do have a large mail list, make sure your auto fields are updated correctly. If your contact name field isn't reliable, think twice about using it.

Here's a great example of a clunker below showing even the big boys get it wrong from time to time.

Dear Admin,

Today we called you Craig by mistake. Although that is a great name, we realise the confusion it created as it might not be yours! This was due to a bug in our email update and we'll make sure it does not happen again. You can find the original email below.....

So first we are called Craig, then emailed again and called Admin. It's nice to feel valued and special
