Saw the geldoff interview on sky where he swore. Done himself no favours, songs mediocre words are crap. If it does good and raises cash then fair enough but time for this song to be consigned to history”

Ooops - reading my reply again, i actually forgot the OP !

Agree with Shakey - time the song was put to bed and a new one made - kind of accept the need for it, but even with some new lyrics its a dated track.

Slightly off topic (again) - Geldoff is banging on about downloading the track multiple times in iTunes and delete it and re download - not done it myself but apparently you actually can't do that! You would have thought he would have checked his facts !!!

Ex Mob 26th November 2014 9:53 AM

I was a space cadet - but thats a close as i got to signing up - its also actually where i first met Steve (awww)

Had every intention of joining up, but was rejected because of my colour blindness

Think you have to be a certain kind of person to join up in any of the forces, you either have that in you or you don't.

Hats off to those that serve and protect us

Have Tescos got it right? 26th November 2014 9:50 AM

Saw this article and wanted to get some thoughts.

BBC News - Tesco 'gifts for boys' sign removed after girl's complaint

Synopses - Tesco get in a bunch of superhero alarm clocks - wack 'um on the shelf with a badge saying Fun gifts for boys.

All good so far, until ....... 7 year old girl takes exception as she likes superheros too and has one of the said alarm clocks. Mum posts on social media a pic of girl holding sign with sad face - Tesco react and pull the sign.

Marketing fail? Sexist? Too PC?

IMHO - disaster - what we are saying effectively now a days is that you can't target a product at a genre for fear of backlash of being sexist or PC

Surely without being stereotypical, boys usually go for the superheros, action figures and girls go for pink barbies & angel wings, but accept that both sexes will play with items outside of this remit.

Not being sexist AT ALL but really am fed up of this kind of overkill & hype for political correctness for what is supposed to be a fun time of the year.

Britain's worst EVER drink driver 26th November 2014 9:36 AM

Couldnt help but share this as i read this with my mouth literally agape !

A driver from Bedfordshire has recently been classed as the highest reading of a drink driver ever recorded, that being 12 times, yes 12 times over the legal limit.

That meant he blew a reading of 423mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath (the legal limit is 35mg of alcohol in 100 ml of breath)

Absolutely astounded he could actually stand, find his car and insert the key, let alone drive !!!!!

What a muppet - lets hope he is tucked away behind bars for a while and is serving a nice long driving ban !

I too give regularly to Charity, but its one of my choice and i rarely stick money in a tin as a result of my personal contributions.

Some accept my polite statement that i only give to Cancer related causes and 99% of the time its done directly, others try and justify why i should give to their cause, to which most of the time i politely decline, if they get more insistent, then so does my reply !

I actually took over a DD that my father had with Marie Curie, (he died in one of their hospices), i have since cancelled it because every month i was sent a magazine and fluff that must cost a fortune to print and post etc - money IMHO that should be going to the cause. I accept that they need to raise funds and their profile but that was too much. I simply now make a payment on my credit card every so often that more than equates to what i used to pay on DD.

I also contribute any proceeds of compensation from my infamous complaining about Customer Service

Hamilton win - was it manufactured? 21st November 2014 1:35 PM

Was really looking forward to the final race of the year - it couldn't be closer !!! But i'm in Devon this weekend visiting little bro - arrrgh - will be screaming back up the m5 sunday night to watch the race that i will set up to record - best i dont watch the news all day sunday!

You really must watch this clip though - BBC News website

looks like the drivers are in a press conference & the interviewer is talking to Rosberg about the race - look at Buttons eyes when Rosberg states that Hamilton should keep the race clean - errm who ran in to who recently?? Who parked his car on the final lap of Monaco qualy, forcing Hamilton to abandon his lap ... cheeky cheating .... (edit for profanity)!

Criminal Negligence - or not 20th November 2014 4:23 PM

Hi Steve

I'm not a criminal expert or even a consumer law expert, but i have had plenty of dealings with car manufacturers in my time with various issues and interesting outcomes!

My first suggestion would be to email/write to the dealer where you bought the van from. You need to give them a written report of the problem and wait for their reply. You now have a written chain of events.

Clearly they have failed to take you seriously and that would majorly annoy me. Your next step (IMHO) is to complain to the service manager at said garage and if necessary escalate that to senior management or if they are part of a chain speak to a manager/director of them.

If you still don't get anywhere then go to the manufacturers/distributors in the UK. I would have thought by then that someone would have listened and have taken you seriously.....

I took on my local Audi dealership in September- long and short i got to director level of the chain of owners of the local garage, resulting in a half price service and going to another local(ish) garage in the same chain,

I also took on a Renault dealership a few years ago regarding a gearbox issue on a 3 1/2 year old car -that resulted in going all the way to the top and spoke to Renault UK and pushed my way to a senior manager in their complaints department -  i got them up to 70% contribution for a new gearbox, before deciding that my best option would be to dump the car.

Best of luck with getting your issue sorted.

Feel free to PM me for any further tips/advice or even bounce a few ideas around

Cats sitting in circles 19th November 2014 3:04 PM
Might be being a little bit picky here, but when I was at school they called the above shape a heptagon

My cats prefer rectangular shapes, either my bed or my chair.......”

Dang it - you beat me to it Barney !

Definitely that isnt a circle!

Mine prefers sitting/lying & sleeping as high up my chest as she can get!

As a Governor of a local school to me this is one of the biggest bug bears from parents.

Your hand is always in your pocket for one Charity or another - yes there are some serious atrocities in the world but we have our own issues in the UK.

I dont recall my folks paying out all the time either and yep if you didn't want to or couldnt afford the school trip you did extra lessons as Higgers said.

All schools budgets are tight but what really really gets to me is the inequality in the way the devolved formula capital is distributed - why does an inner city school have greater funding than a green leaf suburban Town? ( i believe that an inner city school in Birmingham would get almost double per child to what our kids get in Redditch!)

Schools & the NHS are desperately in need of greater funding - lets stop the Tourist benefits culture and medical tourists, lets stop sending millions of pounds to the latest crisis in the world and concentrate on our own country - lets get Great Britain back to being Great - once we have achieved that then we can start up donating money offshore !

Reward systems can work, but you can get sucked in to a trap that your rewards are worth more than they actually are.

My former partner always went to Tescos for fuel because she got points - she drove past Morrisons & Sainsburys, both with a fuel forecourt - wasnt until i pointed out that the points were worth less than the 2p a litre more she was paying that she stopped going.

I agree with the pay less in the beginning policy - fed up with Sainsburys giving me a voucher to spend on the next shop - cheeky blighters even time restrict the discount too !
