The whole online profile is real food for thought. Just as is what happens to it after you've popped your clogs!

Guarding privacy though from a business perspective can still be achieved, and yet have a visible social networking profile and be able to freely market.

Just use your business as your persona, logo's can replace photos if that bothers some people. If operating form home, separate business lines guard home privacy, and to meet UK online regulations by stating adrress information, can be bypassed by using a registered address. This can be an accountant, or many firms now offer registered address and mail forwarding services.

Setting up some google alerts then gives you a chance to monitor and police your online persona, and dip in and do some damage limitation if need be

Yeah, I've got the separate phone number, separate email address, PO Box address, different username, and the photo will be swapped out for a logo (ish) as soon as the artist completes it.

But it's like bungee jumping. You know perfectly well that there's all the safety precautions and equipment, all of which you've looked at and checked and can see... but you still need to get past the bit in your brain which is insisting that jumping off a bridge is a BAD thing to do!
