Hi = I want to start Dog Grooming on a part time basis (only one day a week) and plan to use my mothers shed (mum owns her own home with no mortgage) - I plan to collect and delivery my clients (one at a time) so there wont be any more toing and froing than there is now - the shed is also used for garden storage - Nothing of any value (extra from what is in the shed now) will be stored in the shed. Does this sound like something that could be done easily without too much cost? I am hoping this idea will take off and and I will be able to make a living out of it

I know people do run this sort of business from their homes - my dad use to use somebody that did just this

However, I do not think that the pet owners will be too keen on knowing their pooch is been groomed amongst the spades and compost!

You also need to find out if you can LEGALLY run this sort of business from the premises. And don't forget about insurance too!

As MagnifyB said you need to look in to the legal side of things and insurance would be needed, you might want to talk to the FSB or Chamber they may be able to help???

Also agree with him on 'doing it in a garden shed' which are normally dirty places may be frowned up on if your customers find out. Might be best to see if you can move out the garden tools and fit it out for your needs only.

Hope it goes well for you!

For some people it can be very hard. You have to be very disciplined to ensure in working hours you actually work or find work. No sloping off for a coffee and neighbours.

You also need to keep work and home life apart. Do not let work intrude into the home life after business hours.

I've worked from home for 15 years and my "office" is separate to my home.

In fact it is a converted garage with a door that is locked after work.

You also need to speak to your accountant, as part of your electric, gas and water can be charged to the business.

The idea looks nice but I little bit concern on the you spend on dog grooming, you should increase it, will attract more clients for your business.
