The problem with teachers striking this time of year, is that it will no doubt effect children taking their exams, I assume they will now be doing their mocks leading up to summer exams.During the 70s they were forever on strike so as a kid it never bothered me, but I think nowadays teachers have a lot tougher time than their predecessors, have little or no respect given to them, have very little power / authority over the children. Have multilingual classes all at various different levels of education. Yet their expected to manage a classroom for a pittance. I wouldn't want the job.
PostsSummer Teacher Strikes 23rd April 2014 12:59 AM Scotland Vote Yes or No - Virtual Sweepstake 20th April 2014 11:11 PM I'll vote no, on the basis that I can not see what if any are the benefits of them going independent. More to lose than to gain School Holidays - does it impact your business? 14th April 2014 12:15 PM I live opposite a school, love it when their on holiday, traffic moves swiftly, no crisp wrappers, coke can and fag butts in my garden either..... Banning work emails after 6pm? 10th April 2014 6:33 PM I think it is a good thing, years ago everything closed at 5pm and didn't open till 8am the following morning, half day closing on a Wednesday and shut on a Sunday. Now with modern technology and an open all hours policy it seems to be that we are forever working. The whole way society now operates isn't a very good compared to the way we use to live, it feels like we've all become zombies and without the computer / email we are now stuffed... Apprenticeships, have they had their day? 10th April 2014 6:24 PM Apprenticeships are definitely on the way back especially in the construction industry. There are also incentives for employers to take on an apprentice. Expenses Row Rumbles On 7th April 2014 8:48 PM I don't understand why politicians are allowed to claim for any expenses or tax breaks that the ordinary working person in the UK can't claim for. I understand that some work exceedingly long hours, but then so do some ordinary folk, I get it that politicians can work far away from home, but then again so do some of us plebs. I do think politicians should get a pay rise and do away with expenses altogether, I certainly don't believe in them having second homes, the Olympic village is more than suitable accommodation for any late night sittings. I also think that any pay rises they get should rather than track say the rate of inflation, it should track the rate of the state pension. Spell Checker - now working 7th April 2014 8:21 PM Is it a different version from the previous one? I thought the previous one auto corrected, where as this one just seems to slap a red line underneath the miss spelt word..... Are you one of the 6 in 10 Brits that are sleep deprived? 5th April 2014 10:03 AM Indeed I am, had problems for the last 2 years or maybe longer, working unsocial hours certainly dosen't help, neither does sitting in front of a computer late at night answering emails or blogging I find it just ends up sending the brain into overdrive. Working for myself I found that my brain was constantly scrambled trying to juggle too much into a day, realisticaly you cannot do it all without help from others. I think if you end up depriving yourself of sleep it will eventually effect your health all round. I was going to bed around 2am in the morning nod off around 3am and then up around 6am...... I was either going to get sectioned or an early grave, certainly could not go on like it, in the end I got others involved to deal with all the clerical and telephones and took a step back from the business.... have to say it was the best thing I could have done.... Bugs and Issues 3rd April 2014 10:51 PM One other thing I've just noticed on here, (might just be me though) have just been into my profile to change my password and noticed the facebook and twitter links were around the wrong way, the Google plus was correct though.... and is there a way to stop the 10 minute edit message popping up?....... RBS to close branches, will this be a trend? 3rd April 2014 10:18 PM You know, I haven't been into a bank for over 2 years. I don't take and refuse to take any cash or cheque payments, with all payments having to be made via bacs or card. I find it much more convenient and a whole lot quicker. I think the majority of people now bank online and will have some form of debit card. I think the service that banks give their customers by making them queue up inline to see only one teller open out of a possible five which is more often the case prevents people from wanting to use their services. I can see a lot more branches of all banks closing simply because people have far more interesting things to do...... |
