Positive energy 15th September 2017 11:29 AM

Firstly, let me say this, I am a pessimist by my very nature, that and my dry sense of humour we can blame my father for. I am definitely not the kind of person to waft crystals around or offer to hypnotise you into being a business hotshot. I am a proofreader and a writer.

However, lately I have been open to a more holistic approach as I suffer from anxiety since my son was born and I do find the world an overwhelming place at times. Self-care is an important part of this, good diet, exercise etc., but what I did find interesting recently was the power of energy.

I had a conversation with a friend who is very, how shall we put this, in touch with his spiritual side. I am a big old sceptic and take a more scientific approach. However, we ended up deciding I should focus positive energy into work as he did a mini tarot reading for me (this is so not my thing, but each to their own and I’ll try anything once). This has reaped benefits already and within a week or two I have had three really great work opportunities come through for regular work, which is precisely what I need and a bit of a holy grail in my business (and indeed anyone’s).

What did I actually do though? I certainly changed my mindset, and felt more positive about work and business and felt like I focussed more readily on it. Now I think this basically made me look at my business in a positive way, which obviously reflected in interactions, more marketing perhaps, more networking, some luck and coincidence rather than some magical power. It is interesting what a difference this simple change made though, and that setting goals or aims for the week or month can really make one heck of a difference.

As a very busy mum of two young children and part time carer for my parents I am feeling the strain of late and this whole ‘experiment’ really did lead to some positive and useful results. I certainly use the term experiment very loosely as there was no hypothesis, control or method to my madness. But perhaps what I have learnt is that just taking a step back and deciding what you need to focus on can help. Or perhaps I need to start believing in energy forces and chakras and wafting crystals. Do you believe in the power of positive thinking?

NB - no offence is intended to those who offer services regarding crystals, tarot or anything else mentioned in my ramblings

I love optimism, well said

Optimism is the least British trait ever though. Sounds far too European!

Priorities - juggling the kids 13th September 2017 11:13 AM

I definitely cannot juggle my son, as he is a giant one year old and I already get a full workout just carrying him around!  But how do you get that work/life balance? I am currently trying to balance the needs of my young children with the needs of myself and my business and it’s hard! I am sure other working parents must feel the same a lot of the time.

I chose to have children and for me bringing them up myself is very important. I want them to be instilled with my values and morals (yes, they’ll be lefties like me

Are keys slowly becoming out of date.. 11th September 2017 8:36 PM

My parents have a fingerprint recognition pad entry on their new house. It never seems to work for me for a start, and secondly if there's a power cut and they're out they can't get in!? Not so good.

A first date to tell the grandkids about? 11th September 2017 1:25 PM
Awkward but funny  ... If it is really true that is , there is a similar story that has been told ,in different guises about toilets not flushing  ”
Yes there are a few stories but this one has the photos of her being rescued by the firemen.... It looks pretty legitimate!
A first date to tell the grandkids about? 10th September 2017 9:48 PM

This is really quite funny and unusual, if you've not seen it check it. Other first date nightmares don't come close to this.

That's an interesting idea, to get listed in the final edition. Although I have to admit as I worked right next to the Yell building in Reading the company does annoy me a bit for various reasons. Mostly as some of their staff used to take over the local Chinese buffet on a Friday.

It doesn't look good as the likely payout we have to make is going to be huge but negativity breeds negativity so the media coverage certainly isn't going to help. The whole thing appears to be an unholy mess really.  I have a fair few European friends who live here and are still worried about their status here. I guess only time will tell with any of it.
