Generic Top Level Domains 28th April 2014 12:15 PM
From what ive read, these new ones like xyz.builder carry no power when it comes to the actual domain extension. So the builder extension would have no keyword value. I wouldnt buy any, you could spend a fortune trying to lock out competitors. ”

I have no idea what the value is in Google terms for the urls, but i know i wouldn't want my competitors using the same url, save for the . biz, . eu, . uk etc.

Ok you wont need all of them but i'm with Barney, it cant hurt to take the top few urls out from the mix - can it?

Google Page1 for Grumpy Clive 28th April 2014 9:50 AM

I actually dont mind - how many people can claim to be Google P1 without using their full name?

Harmless fun

DSR requires you to display your vat number. However, there is no DSR police and doubt anyone else such as HMRC or Trading Standards would bother as most businesses do not display it anyway.

 ”

Most of the time during the course of my day checking various websites i can't even find an address, let alone Company Reg number or VAT number!

Hopefully those Companies that don't display this info are more of a target to the authorities

I seem to be in the middle of a no Co-op zone - would have to drive past 2 big supermarkets to get to my not so local co-op at home.

Although i regularly go to Wales and the only supermarket in the Town is Co-op - don't find their range any different to that of the others. Price-wise its more expensive but then i'd expect that due to the remote location.

Be interesting to see if their "Fair & Square Prices" get as far as Wales - will report back next time i'm there!

Happy 20th Birthday Spam! 24th April 2014 10:19 AM

I have to agree Barney, i get dozens of seo related spam to me from India

Wonder if spam trends depending on your type of business?

Summer Teacher Strikes 23rd April 2014 12:11 PM
Yet their expected to manage a classroom for a pittance. I wouldn't want the job.”

Teachers pay used to be down in line with other Public sectors but their pay has increased somewhat since my father retired some 20 years ago.

Still don't want their job though, but those going in to the industry know what they are going in to.

I have always said if you don't like a job, do something about it!

Amazing how your views change when you have kids, and I cringe now about how unsympathetic I used to be when it came to employees and childcare

I remember saying about 5 years ago that "someones" opinion would change when they had children!!!!

One of mine is about to leave school, the other i still have to split the hols with his mother, but its not so bad now as at least on the few days i cannot have off i can leave him on his own

On the plus side, roads are quiet and actually getting 50mpg on the way to work, usually struggle to get 40mpg in morning rush hour!!!

Summer Teacher Strikes 22nd April 2014 2:29 PM

Descending from a long line of teachers, (Gran was a head, Dad was a deputy, aunt a year head & little brother on the management team at his school) one has to be a bit careful on what is said.

I am a Governor (vice chair as it happens) at a local school and I know how hard the staff & team work but that doesn't mean that they can just spit their dummies because they don't get their own way.

I'm against strikes - teachers seem to be constantly complaining about this & that - bottom line is if you don't like the long holidays, don't want a nice pension at the end of your working life (i accept that its part contributed by them) then come and work in the private sector - 25 days holiday a year & your own private pension to sort.

Weve just lost ours in Redditch, think Solihull or Birmingham are now the closest ones. Guess this is the same across the country?

Who mentioned Tescos

This is the second year they have done it, but I like chocolate”

Ahh I see, I'm out of the office for a few days and you nick the chocolate!
