Photos of Boarding Cards

One of today's national newspapers has highlighted the risks of posting pictures of airline boarding cards on sites such as Instagram.

Not being a techie please bear with me in explaining the problem.  Most boarding cards now display a bar code.  By "hacking" into that bar code, personal details can be obtained about the passenger, including membership of frequent flyer programmes. It was suggested that the person who recently spent three weeks in airport lounges gained access by doing this.

Could it be the same people who posted their travel details on Facebook then wondered why they had been burgled......

Never understand why people advertise the fact they are away

I did check in on Facebook to a hotel last time i was in Edinburgh, but only did it as my fiancee was at home. Don't actually get the fascination with it, nor the fact the 3 people i have not seen in 20 years liked it

Wait until you get back to post all the wonderful boring pics of your holiday that we all cannot wait to see .....

You really are a grumpy old fart!

Yup have been guilty of posting pics on my personal FB account while we are on our hols, but live in a nice quiet cul de sac with the nosiest neighbours in the world, plus pics are private to friends and family.

Interesting though about the bar code, never would have thought of that!

Yup - old grumpy & have an empty mug in front of me, surely its your round

Not everyone locks down their FB account though, although even i have managed to work it out

Back to the o/p - never knew that they contained so much info. Naively thought it would just be name, flight number and seat on said plane.
