An Imperfect Business - social media 26th April 2012 7:44 PM
That's a good point - it's also probably why I use it as a reading medium as a opposed to a writing medium.

I think on Twitter's side - it's a matter of just being there and sharing relevant tweets about your industry. in the business side of promoting via twitter - it would be a good way to reach out - reach your information out there.

It can also be one way of humanizing your company.

social media is definitely imperfect but is evolving every day. I think it is more about what opportunities does one business can get in doing social media - some are pro-active some are not.
Google Plus for Business! 23rd April 2012 4:59 PM
What exactly do you mean by "it's happening"? Google+ doesn't seem to be gaining too much ground, or if it is it's not very noticeable. Of course, that's comparing it to Facebook which has had a lot of years to establish and stabilize.

What I meant here is that search results are now really being influenced by Google+. And we can only abide and go with the flow as Google still has the largest search volume share.

Cheers Wingman, yep have been using rich snippets for some time, and we have definitely had a positive reaction ever since we started showing reviews, although it does increase overhead moderating reviews and dealing with negative complaints

Interesting to see how Google is incorporating more rich snippets. It looks like hcard still isn't being used, although we are marked up for it, and still waiting for Publisher markup to start showing (ie showing business logos rather than author and G+ profile pics).

Yes - reviews are double sided swords but as people are saying - engaging these as we can is still better than not at all.

Overhead increase is inevitable as more and more people are relying on the internet.

Regarding publisher mark up, do you have more information about it? That is interesting
I think that the current Google updates are just signs that they are already catching up. It is but apparent for us (business and individuals alike) to take SEO seriously rather than simply looking for ways to automate things.

Google now cries for more original and engaging content and I guess that is where our focus should be at than trying to know what works or not.

When all else fails, we just need to get back to basics and grow our website for the sake of our visitors and prospect base.

Hi Steve,

Reviews is actually a snippet that Google looks to roll out as well.. Based on market study that online reviews does act similarly as personal recommendations.

It is best to work on links naturally than get them via automated norms - eventually and it would just be a matter of time when Google gets you for it.

If you are all for short term goals on your website, then it's your call if you wish to go ahead. But if you are for the whole 9 yards - I suggest you stick to really investing on creating great content and promoting it naturally to your niche.
My advise is develop useable, valuable content to share on your website and promote that on social networks applicable to your industry. Make it share worthy that people would link to it by themselves. That's when you create real valuable backlinks to your website.
a nice discussion I agree. From another SEO expert - what I heard was, "slow and steady wins the race"

I think what over seo would pertain to is just to focus on "just" having links all over but give value to links built naturally (eg. shared from social media, talked about, etc.)

A nice smooth combination of each aspect would be the perfect combination in my opinion then do it steadily
