Well I wasn't saying that he should state that his achievement would be Google page 1 or No. 1, etc., but just what he thinks he could reasonably achieve in a reasonable time so that we can measure what he plans to achieve by what he finally does achieve.

I think a lot of the issues come down to the SEO's that make promises. I'm on his side in that you cant make a statement of what position you can definitely ahcieve due to what Google might surprise us with, good or bad. But you cannot equally, leave it wide open and say you have no idea.

A lot of the issues lie around the promises in the time frame as much as anything, because its the legnth of time optimising for it (ie when paid monthly) that can take a long time and the customer is paying for it. So if a SEO states 6 months for a page 1 position and after 6 months they're still on page 2, well the SEO has got his money but the client is left without his goal being met and either has to keep paying (him or someone else) or leave it where it is and do nothing more.

Most decent SEO's can get a keyword to rank on page 1 (and no. 1) eventually, but for me what makes an SEO truly worth his salt (I mean expert SEO's) is those who can come close to what they aim to achieve.

I have yet to see any of the vocal SEO's on some forums take a good keyword and run a campaign and prove their ability having stated their aims first. ie I will get the website to Google Page 1 in 12 months for 'mykeyword' (assuming that 12 months is not for a walk in the park type of keyword of course!)

To put things into perspective with this free offer, are you going to state what you expect to achieve and by when?

ah and I completely would agree with you and that's the point I was making above. Some things you just don't share with others. Except paying customers

I preferred the original to be honest. But that's just my personal visual tates.

I would recommend a lot of things as I do every week for all sorts of things, but I wouldnt recommend someone who was great at SEO for getting me to Google page 1 for the phrase 'web design' (this is merely an example keyword).

It's not the same as recommending my printer or an accountant. I only mean for not recommending someone who perfomred a service that could perform a same service to a competitor that would in fact help them do better than me in that sense, I didnt mean that we should not recommend anyone at all for any service.

Oh, so the testimonial isn't real you mean? No it doesn't matter if you aren't actually going to sell it as a service if someone foud the site and rang you if that's the only place they are likely to see it. So it's just example content on a live site really.

Anyway, one thought you may want to consider why you rarely see anyone positively recommending their SEO person is because if they reveal who they are (which they would have to name themselves as the cleint otherwise the testimonial means zero) then a competitor may come along and use that same SEO who obviously performed well for Mr A so if Mr B pays a tad more, he should therefore overtake him assuming it's a good keyword the SEO performed well for. I wouldn't be announcing any of my secrets anytime soon. If I used an SEO I wouldn't say who it was because he was great. No way!

But the website it links to offers seo and there's a testimonial, the chap refers to you by name

I see you also offer seo as a service. How well have you done for your customers on the SEO side of things? What's been your best keyword achievement to-date?
