UK Broadband infrastructure - why are we so behind? 25th March 2011 11:21 AM

One thing that seems to have gone by the board is the quality and speed of the broadband in the country.
I would like to use VOIP for instance but with the speed around here running at a snails pace theres no chance, yes I know there are alternatives like Vodaphone and Orange but expensive.

We are so far behind our European neighbours and yet the lobbying for improvement seems to have ground to a halt. I know the efficiency in my small comapny would increase beyond belief with a high speed connection. So what if high speed networks were available everywhere in the country as BT keeps promising? All we get from them is an increase of 9% on our bills. GREAT!

There's an awful long way to go. The budget next week will be a pointer. The Housing Market, inflation, money supply, unemployment, world economy, Oil and so much more including whats happening in the Middle East are all unpredictable factors which will create nervous markets for some time to come.

All I can say is, if we continue to wait for all these things to be positive, we will wait until eternity and miss the boat.

Regarding my own business, we have continued to invest in new equipment, new software and added to our products and services along with new marketing and cutting unnecessary costs. We have kept our workforce in the loop so that they know extacly what our plans are and there is a positive ambiance in the company.

I look upon the recent past and current times as an opportunity, the more you put in now the more successful you will be.

I have to say, I wouldn't give up so easily but I would like to know a couple of things.
When did you commission the site, what was the start date and when did it stop? It isn't finished but is it on line but incomplete?
Was there a written contract with a written schedule of work? Anything at all in writing from the company that you placed the order with?
Is this company still viable and therefore trading?
Naturally, an incomplete website which is on the web will not help you so you will need to take some form of action as soon as possible.

Damn difficult cutting down on overheads and other costs for small business now.
Couple of examples: I have just looked into VOIP for all sorts of reasons including cost saving, guess what. My B****y Broadband is too slow with no plans to upgrade. (Third World Mentality I think).
Next, I have just had my renewal Company insurance for which we have made no claims for years. The cost has gone up by 120%, the reason given is that they have suddenly changed our area to flood risk even though there has been no floooding in our area in recent memory. Now this is a scam!!

If anyone knows of an insurance company that treats their customers fairly, I would like to know. 'Pie in the Sky' I think?

Thats right, I already know where some of my key words are and as I said they are now moving because I have just started correcting some of the poor input from previous input (externally), however the keywords that I have been working on the most are Variable Data Printing and Graphic Design and I'm happy with their climb.
