Fuel Duty Frozen! 26th June 2012 11:56 PM
At last some good news for motorists

Just heard Fuel duty has been frozen for the rest of the year and the planned rise in August has been scrapped.

With the cost of living increasing month on month hopefully now things will calm down a bit, although in reality the 3p difference (4p if you add vat) only saves me around

Have telephoned and emailed and in fairness he did call back within 10 minutes or so, said he had no idea as he had paid for someone to build it for him, when I explained that every page had been copied from other sites around the country he seemed quite shocked. Said he would remove the content over the next few days. Although the website is a self build one in 20minutes from 1 & 1, suppose I'll give him the benefit of doubt...

As such, I assumed that they knew what they were doing! Furthermore, they have clients like "Sports Direct", Sainsburys, Earnst Jones, and many more. As such, I believed that they were trustworthy and a decent company to work with.

Just because an SEO company's website states, that it has well known clients on it's books, I learnt the hard way that this may well not be the case, it gives potential clients a perception that they are dealing with a reputable company. It happened to me, in the end I wrote to the blue chip companies and none of them had ever heard of the SEO company. After a long drawn out court case, the SEO company involved has removed all references to these businesses. And I never did pay them, it cost me more in legal fees, but it was a principle thing for me, not a cat in hells chance was I going to give them any more money...
State of the Uk plumbing industry 19th June 2012 4:25 PM
Here's a bit of an eye opener into the state of the UK's plumbing industry and this will be the same for all tradesmen across the country, fortunately 6 million people live in London so I do ok, but it is tough out there.... Not so busy plumbers I can see house repossessions starting to rise soon...
Is your car vulnerable to hackers? 19th June 2012 12:31 AM
Funny you should mention this, but having recently taken a new van to Protectavan in Essex (had new slam locks fitted) The guy there explained that it is now possible to get the key code via a PDA or laptop within minutes and the owner would be none the wiser. And it can be done on most vehicles, which kind of begs the question what are the manufacturers doing about it? I've only ever bought Renault Trafic vans over the last 15 years, the reason being was that Renault supposedly won awards for its 18 point security system on its vans, even winning the grand title of 'International van of the year' So I was somewhat shocked when a colleague said to me, that it was possible to just pull the plastic handles off with a little bit of force.
The funny thing is, he was talking to me about this only last week. Currently on a link building mission for this site, everything was going well till the Google update and things went a bit pear shaped. He also said that the chap who does the SEO said that the different key words used in my signature was having a negative effect with Google, is this possible? He said it would be seen from Google as being spammy. All I know is, one site I haven't spent a penny on it for best part of 3 years and has thousands of worthless Indian based directory links and generates loads of business, whereas this site which is being kept sqeaky clean, having loads of money invested into it, seems to be constantly struggling although enquiries are picking up through it.......
I wish I could understand how all this facebook / twitter stuff worked, It reminds me of playground school day with "I'll be friends with you, but only if you'll be friends with me" All in the hope of generating traffic, seems a whole lot of work / time / effort for very little return to me. You'll have to generate 1000s of followers / likes to make it worth it I would have thought.... or maybe I'm just not getting it.
