One of my entries after two weeks of the domain itself being live is now Google position 1 for "optimise indexability". I have avoided off page SEO for this project and have now created another landing page for the search terms "optimise url" and "SEO URL". ”

I've got to be honest, as search terms go, optimise indexabilty it can't be that hard to rank

I can't imagine many people would search for outside of a forum conversation and the test case.

In fact by repeating the phrase optimise indexabilty I've now probably competing with the other forums you have this same discussion with and currently show up for that phrase.

It reminds me of the thread we had for Grumpy Clive which after nothing more than a forum post, has been the top of page 1 Google now for nearly 4 years! Drives little traffic, but is a good example of what some basic optimisation can do for a relatively unpopular or very niche key word. It could be toppled quite easily if Grumpy Clive became the next must have phrase.

I'd imagine your term optimise URL is a more realistic one from a targeted traffic point of view for your industry. Be interested to see how you get on, ie how long it takes you to get the "optimise URL" to the top of Google, the amount of time taken (time is money) and the reward for it being there, ie targeted traffic, conversions etc.

Having been guilty of it myself, I found over the years a lot of people obsess over a particular phrase without first researching exactly what it is they want to achieve and how many leads will be required to make the phrase profitable. In otherwords SEO may be a marketing discipline, but it is overruled by business acumen.

Best of luck, shall watch with interest

and nothing happens to you.”

Not strictly true, given current events

I don't know, I like a world with satire, sarcasm, non PC humour, and feel free to call me a pratt on twitter.

Twitter trolling and cyber bullying to the point of destroying peoples lives is on a different scale to satirical mocking a subject like religion IMHO.

Something that is taken far too seriously whatever the belief or flavour, from aliens and Scientology to the one prophet or many gods. Lets face it, it has been the largest cause of death, destruction and cruelty for thousands of years.

But if a cartoon was used a weapon of malice and the humour/satire was removed, then I agree, it is no different to verbal abuse or trolling and should be treated as such.

It's not just databases that get it wrong

Well never thought I'd be supporting the French

Great quote from the Guardian website:

Mockery is hated by the powerful and despotic – which is why it must continue

Nice gesture from the Guardian and Google.

A big fan of satire, although not familiar with Charlie Hebdo, it is a worrying development and I do wonder where all this extremism is leading us all  All it will do is fuel far right sentiment and escalate tension.

What's next, an attack on Mock the Week, or have I got news for you?

It really is a sad and confusing world we live in...

If you are plugging something into your website, then definitely go and talk to a web designer. There is so much open source code and plugins available that I'm sure someone could come up with a very cost effective solution. If you want any designer reconsiderations let me know.

I hope this doesn't stop it from happening ,as if we do it could be my Job

Crikey! Fingers crossed and let us know!

OPEC Oil Cartel feeling the pressure 8th January 2015 2:28 PM

Seem to recall somewhere that diesel only costs 1.5p a litre more to produce that petrol so why at the pumps is it 6 or  7p a litre more expensive to buy?”

Tescos, the forums (well Clives at least  favourite subject!)

So according to the Beeb today, we've got a new Boss coming onboard from Halfords and Tescos have announced 43 store closures and axing plans to open 49 superstores!

Blimey, great start to 2015, after 2014, probably the year they will definitely want to try and forget about

Looks to be an interesting time for the giant retailer, they have a massive image problem to repair, financial issues to sort out, including ongoing Police investigations.

I wonder if the Boss from Halfords was feeling a bit bored and fancied a challenge?

On the plus side, share price is on the up, so may be worth a punt if you think this is the year Tescos turns it round!

So how do you feel about Oldham Athletic hiring convicted rapist Ched Evans?

He is adamant he is innocent, was convicted and served a prison sentence, and now released.

Should he be barred now from pursuing his previous career now he has been released from society, or should he be punished further?

Removing emotion and the obvious sentiment that the victim will be paying for his crime for a lot longer than he has, it does generate and interesting conundrum.

The justice system (rightly or wrongly) deems him to have paid his penalty and has released him back into society. Should that carry caveats or is it just because he is a sports person?

Club sponsors and sections of the media seem to think he needs more punishment, along with the club for hiring him.

Or should he be made to stack shelves in Tesco or maybe live on benefits (paid by us)?

Would there be the same issue and publicity if he was a high paid programmer and was about to get a job with Google or Microsoft? Or maybe if he was convicted of tax avoidance rather than a sexual crime?

Completely baffled why the Prime Minister has now stuck his oar in:

David Cameron expects that any football club considering hiring convicted rapist Ched Evans will "weigh their decisions very carefully", Downing Street has said.

Guess this is the reality of the modern age and Trial by Media.

What do you think?

With the continuing downward spiral of Oil prices, it seems the latest problem for the Eurozone is now deflation, ie negative inflation.

But is this a problem we need to worry about in the UK? Have been trying to get a better understanding of why there is an issue, as at face value, lower fuel prices reduces prices across the board meaning a lower cost of living. This means more disposable income, which as long as people spend it, means more tax revenue.

Or is that too simplistic?

The BBC did a post about Deflation in June last year and the upshot from that seems to be the issue is down to the volume and cost of Debt:

One reason is the effect on debtors. Prices and perhaps incomes may fall, but debts do not. If you are a business with falling revenue, or a household with a declining income, debt payments become more of a burden.

But I'm struggling to see why households would see a declining income, other than those businesses connected or tied into the supply chain of the oil industry?

Retail businesses may be reducing prices, but isn't this just passing on transportation savings along the chain? So profit wise there shouldn't be any different, with no pressure on salaries or reducing headcount?

Or is the argument that people put off buying capital items when prices are falling a strong one, meaning long delays in replacing/purchasing goods which will put pressure on retailers. So although more money in peoples pockets, it's not getting to the tills or being spent.

I'm not convinced, but be interested to hear other thoughts on it. Do you think Euro deflation is a genuine issue that worries you business wise.
