Well to be honest all the celebs from the 70's either seem to be croaking it, or part of operation Yewtree

“I guess it just seems strange because we all grew up with these people who were constantly in the limelight and now their dieing, which means all of our lives are relatively short....All the 50s, 60's and 70s stars are now entering their 70s, 80s, and 90s... ”
Who will be next? 19th January 2016 3:00 PM So today we say goodbye to Glenn Frey from the Eagles, the other day it was Alan Rickman, and then of course the legend Bowie. I was talking to HDM about the loss of Bowie and we speculated on who would be next. More in a sentimental "I'm feeling old" kind of way rather than being macabre. Well on Sunday Dale Griffin, founder of Mott the Hoople who passed away at 67 after fighting alzheimers. Today, it was Glenn Frey, so I wonder who will be the next veteran rocker/singer/actor to leave us? On the plus side, there is some great music on the radio at the moment, Bowie, Eagles... Actually ended up on the Facebook Celebrity deaths page just to cheer me up, and another blast from the past, Grizzly Adams has died Must be something in the water... IT Support Packages what are your expectations 19th January 2016 2:13 PM Welcome to the forums Could write a book on experience of IT/hosting providers But there are some good ones, we use Cobweb for our email, and pretty happy with them. Hosting wise it's Rackspace who (most of the time) live up to their support mantra. Just being nosy, in a crowded market, what makes you unique? Jeremy Corbyn on Trident! 19th January 2016 1:13 PM I think I'm falling under the spell of Corbyn politics! Is it time to be realistic about Trident? To replace it, the forecast is around £100 billion, to give us a deterrent against who? Any realistic threat from a weapon of mass destruction will be terrorist in origin. So we will we nuke Syria or Iraq in retaliation because that's where the terrorist cam from? Or will we call upon the Territorial SAS, Army and Airforce Reserve as the tiny regular forces are already busy. Or another off the wall idea, scrap Trident, and then scrap small business corporation tax, which according to the Economic & Social Research Council, makes up just 10% of the Corporation tax bill. This will allow small businesses to prosper, free up cash for R&D, take on employees, who pay more income tax, etc etc. Good god, I'm off to buy a beige jacket with leather elbow patches and a volvo Moved thread to politics section as it seems a better fit A Barrel of Laughs 19th January 2016 11:58 AM
“Down below $28 a barrel today now that Iran plans to flood the market with the stuff... Maybe they'll start doing a buy 1ltr get 1ltr free on the supermarket forecourts soon...
![]() Finally I can justify getting that 4 litre engine UK productivity set to increase - Twitter is down 19th January 2016 10:37 AM Poor old Twitter seems to have broken as they struggle with ongoing outages and broken functionality. Looks like hash tags and searches aren't currently working for the UK. At least it will give MP's a break while the hashtags stay down The usual humour tweets are also appearing (albeit harder to find!), but my favourite tweet I saw this morning had to be from Shelter, who have done a worthy newsjack and spun the twitter problems to highlight homeless issues. Great marketing opportunity and swift thinking Jeremy Corbyn on Trident! 19th January 2016 10:03 AM Superb Jan My 5 pence worth, it's not an independent Nuclear deterrent, as we would never launch independently of NATO or the USA. So pay a percentage to the USA deterrent, maybe re-badge it as a NATO deterrent with NATO countries contributing. Then with all the savings, bolster the conventional Armed Forces and Security Services. “What about put a Tiger in your Tank. On another old one, I love the new John Cleese specsavers simply class advert. Good on you writers

“Top Gear was Clarkson.”
But only here in the UK. People forget Top Gear is a worldwide brand that has spawned numerous shows with local presenters who have their own loyal following and formats. Then there is the merchandising arm, computer games, licensing etc etc £££££ Top Gear is a huge money spinner for the Beeb. The format will change, presenters will come and go, it may have gone laddy/wacky/humorous/OTT, but it is and always has been a car magazine show. Clarkson certainly made TopGear and took it to where it is now, but it's now up to Evans to evolve the format, and keep the program as a flagship money spinner. Fail and it could destroy his career. Pressure wise must be immense with so much speculation, plus Top Gear has set a high bar with a huge loyal following. Destroy the format and you lose your audience, brand dies and revenue collapses. Change too little and you'll be accused of being a poor imitation Clarkson and a cop out. Only in the UK do we all sit back in our armchairs and relish failure and abject humiliation Can you image Mansell as a host? He'd be great on the track, but his monotone voice would have viewers jumping out of the window. Personally used to despise Evans in his younger days, but since listening to him on the Radio 2 Breakfast show, I've warmed to him and he does have an infectious enthusiasm. He's also really good at interviewing people, particularly when they are hard work. He's also a well publicised car nut and collector, so presenter wise, there can't be many more that qualified? Obviously time will tell and the great British public will give the |
