How not to give Customer Service 26th July 2013 11:49 AM
Was reading this article earlier and just had to share it - BBC News - Sidmouth Hotel Riviera demanded dead woman's fee

In essence it appears that a lady was diagnosed with terminal cancer so the family booked a hotel for a few nights as a final holiday. Sadly the lady never made it and died a couple of weeks before the planned trip.

From my understanding of the report the family canceled the trip with a few weeks to the date but as the hotel could not resell the room they have been billed!

Its all got a bit legal and clearly the ladies family have written bad reports about the hotel, with the hotel now saying that they will refund the charges if the family pull its negative comments - isnt that blackmail? Surely they should refund regardless, if the family decide to then publish further comments then isnt that a result?

Now some other body has got involved stating that we should always take out insurance when booking hotels. Yes good advice but has anyone tried to get insurance with a terminal illness? At best it would be excessively costly if not near impossible.
Oh dear seems that the Church has indirectly funded Wonga just 24 hours after announcing plans to go head to head with them as per the above!

According to reports it appears that around

George it is but why was it so predictable

Why are they recycling a handful of names, why not buck the trend and go for something different?

Just looked at the top 100 boys names, shows how out if touch i am, neither of my 2 lads names appear although one of their 2nd names does, Jason at 76

Number 57 most popular name in 2013 - Angel - for a boy? King Angel the 1st... lmao
Having just had a failed Court hearing on Tuesday due to my file not being prepared properly by my solicitors to hand to the advocate, id probably look in to it next time.

Not going to go in to the mechanics of my case as it will turn in to a rant & i will hijack the thread, but in brief ( no pun intended!) im trying to sue the third party who wrote off my beloved MG this time last year.

I know my insurers are footing the bill for the court fees etc but based on the mistake & the hassle of me riding the solicitors so hard i might have well done all this myself and then claimed expenses if i was successful. Live and learn

So how would your proposal work, would each case attract a different fee? For example recovery of excess following a claim would be different from representation for a motoring offence?

By the way, I think many people voluntary provide their numbers for such purposes, without even realising it.

I remember my first week at the university- a few guys on the street were asking freshers to sign up for a free piece of pizza and some draw- all they wanted was my name, my e-mail and my phone number

Rookie mistake lol - i never stop for people in the street, door step callers/charities are politely told to go away or they are told i make my own donations to cancer charities
Im loading fine in Chrome. Ive just logged in with Safari & IE and both have loaded ok too.

I have some concerns the companies are selling information, but I cannot prove it. The other thing is that there is a system, which generates phone numbers

Yes and im told that TPS should block these but in reality they dont check. Also if the call originates outside of the UK TPS doesnt apply (well it didnt use to)

TPS is only an aid to cut down nuisance calls. The other way is not to give out your number - some companies insist so i either point blank refuse or use an old home number ( oops must have changed numbers and forgot to tell you ...) the only company that has my number is my bank & credit card company for fraud prevention!
Goodbye Mr Qatada 8th July 2013 2:11 PM
Finally the extremist has been deported after a lengthy and expensive Legal battle.

Not sure why we let him in the first place or what the hell it has to do with Brussels who we dont want in our Country but thats a different debate!

Was just wondering though, if our Mr Qatada didnt like our Western Society, why did he take a fully funded council house for him and his family & why stay in our Country if it was so bad - oh yes because he feared for his life after years of extremist views in both this & his home country. If you have extremist vile political views, stay out of our Country and if you practice those views in this Country expect to be deported or charged under UK Law.

Now if only his family would follow him ..... am i right in thinking they are still here in their Council funded house?

lol love it, the staff have now been retrained

It sounds like you and Clive are 2 of a kind. This sort of thing normally happens to him, although he would have declined the free voucher, and escalated to head office demanding compensation, which after 15 phonecalls and 6 months, he would have eventually got...

Only just seen this - somehow i missed it - shame i love a good rant !

Anyway in reply to Steves comment - a damn sight more than a voucher !

My best personal compensation ( i just love that word ) is

Just reading this story whilst munching on my sandwich

BBC News - Nuisance calls must be stopped earlier, says ICO

How many sales call a day does anyone get? How many of you are TPS registered or even know what TPS is?

Dont get me wrong we have made our share of sales calls in the past but every single number we rang was TPS checked and opted in data - we no longer make any sales calls.

I have both my home & mobile numbers TPS'd as well as my direct number in the office. I made a complaint a few years ago when i received a call, got a compliant form sent out, not kidding it was 10 pages! i think now it is easier to complain and you can do this over the phone if you have the right info

In line with the article, we have to make complaining about this practice so much easier and actually do something to these firms that constantly flout the Law! But we all need to do our bit.

If you dont want sales calls, get yourself on the TPS register - it is free, but be wary of those companies that charge you,the free link is - TPS

There is a personal & commercial side so if you have different numbers make sure you get them all done. It doesnt stop all calls, but it does cut down a lot of them. If after 4 weeks or so you still get the calls, dont hang up straight away, get the company info & the callers name, you will need this when you log a complaint, be handy too if you can get their number, most will withhold this so it can be tricky to glean this!

Lets make unsolicited calls a thing of the past
