Rip up your Tax disc from 1 October ! 1st September 2014 12:17 PM

This is a news story from a couple of days ago that i really didnt pay any attention to, but did you know that you are no longer required to display a tax disc from 1/10/14?

The paper tax disc is finally getting the chop due to the advances in online checks made available to the Police.

Naturally you are still required to pay vehicle excise duty, however payments can now be made online, or call an automated 24/7 phone service, or you can still do it at a Post Office, you just wont get a "disc". You can even chose monthly payments for an extra fee.

Also you can no longer buy or sell your car with tax on it. From 1/10 it will be your responsibility to Tax the car, so you won't be able to haggle with a salesman to get 6/12 months tax thrown in with the deal of buying the car. When selling your car you must remember to cancel your tax, if you dont you could face a fine of £1000 - what a con !!!

So no more sticky holders on your windscreen - thats just put a company out of business !!!

DONT do anything though until 1st October, you can be fined up until then for failure to display your disc.

Tesco shares price drops 29th August 2014 11:43 AM

Oh dear - things just seem to be going from bad to worse for poor Tescos as their share price has dropped after they announced a cut in the forecast of profits.

They have just announced a hacking of the 6month dividend payment by 75% too.

I still wouldnt feel too sorry for them, they still forecast profits of £2.4bn.

Seems me taking my business elsewhere hasnt affected them too much

Just seen on the BBC website that an Artist has buried 30 x 24 carat gold bars on one of Folkestones Beaches as part of an Arts Festival.

Yes i hear you ask - really !

Not exactly what hiding Gold has to do with Art, but the alleged idea behind it is so that people make "Art" whilst digging.

I'm at a friends for dinner tomorrow so i shall abstain from taking part.

Let me know if you plan on going and report back on Monday with your findings ......

For those that like me have better things to do - have a great weekend

0809 hoax - heads up 29th August 2014 11:09 AM

I dont know about you but i get sent all kinds of rubbish via email and to my Facebook page

Latest one doing the rounds is an alleged Trading Standards letter telling you of a scam regarding calling you telling you a relative has been hurt and for info you must call a 0809 number.

Just delete the email, or ignore the post on FB - its rubbish  5 seconds of Googleing and all sorts of messages pop up regarding this poor excuse of a chain email.

Just thought i'd save you the hassle of looking it up

Well it had to happen, some bright sparks have tried to sell their Votes on Ebay for the Scottish Independence Referendum.

Whether the practice goes on in the dark underworld unseen i have no idea but openly selling your Vote via Ebay has got to be for those that lack a certain intelligence level as surely everyone knows its illegal?

Feel good Thursday story 28th August 2014 10:37 AM

Anyone know what anniversary gift you are supposed to get after 80 years of marriage?

One of the longest married couples in Britain are celebrating their 80th Wedding Anniversary but have been together 85 years!!!!

The couple are now a staggering 102 & 101 - now thats what you call love - ahhhh

Oh the answer - is Oak - not even a well known card shop list anniversaries after 60 years, they are that rare.

Time Warner Cable seemed to have developed a snag and left nearly all of its 11.4 million customers without internet for up to 4 hours in the early hours of yesterday.

All 29 states that TWC service where affected!

So if you didnt get that email you were promised, least now you potentially know why - what a great excuse

Seems the fault was diagnosed as a network maintenance issue configuration that went wrong - thats someones head on the line i guess. Imagine the financial implications, let alone the string of attempted compensation claims. Guessing they will escape those though as it was only a 4 hour outage.

Do you have a HP Laptop? 28th August 2014 10:03 AM

Just seen that HP are doing a Worldwide recall of its power leads for products sold between September 2010 & June 2012.

In the article on the BBC website its stated that 6 million affected leads where sold in just Canada & the USA!

Seems the leads overheat and melt causing injury.

Jut checked my lead and i don't think i'm affected although it is quite warm, will watch this space with interest!

USA 9 year old shoots instructor 27th August 2014 2:07 PM

Just seen in the news that a 9 year old girl has accidentally shot and killed her instructor on a rifle range in the US.

What on earth was a 9 year old doing with an Uzi?

Reading on it does turn out to be a complete accident, the gun "kicked" as it was switched to fully automatic, but surely she shouldn't have been firing it anyway.

Balancing this, i do remember as a young cadet going on to a rifle range at RAF Cosford for the first time, wearing ear defenders an officer barked an order to take the prone position  and then load the weapon, at this point the kid 2 down from me turns around pointing his (unloaded) gun at the group behind. Rifle promptly snatched out of his hands, he was swiftly removed off the range ....

Guns/rifles and kids really do not mix.
