Business Idea - Your Thoughts

If I have posted in the wrong section, apologises in advance.

Great fan of radio, because it still generates traffic, but appreciate radio advertising is dying.

My idea is to offer a one stop shop for advertisers, offering radio ads, combined with on-line ads ( eg Banner ads ) on the radio station site, and on other websites, which can offer the ability to target a particular group ( eg males 25 -40 )

I think it is a good idea, because it utilises some great mediums of media and offer targeted ads for advertisers.

Interested in people's thought.

I think the problem you may find is that the 'actual' radio station and the radio station website are run by 2 separate entities and in my experience the 2 very rarely work together!

Also what you are proposing is simply a multi channel advertising campaign, which if I am honest, is what a reputable marketing company would offer clients anyway!

I personally don't think your idea has a USP and I would advice you to go back to the drawing board - sorry

Thanks for the response.

I am talking to some internet radio stations, which are pretty small scale and normally the people who own the station, run the site as well.

I have spoken to a large recruitment agency, and some other advertisers who are keen to try the system.

All feedback is appreciated.

Welcome aboard, ahh you can't beat the excitement of a fledgling idea

Biggest problem we found with radio advertising was trying to track the effectiveness, and in the end up became an expensive lesson learned.

Compare that with online advertising which is easy to track and monitor results.

I think you're average small biz is going to stick with online for the above reasons, as well as budget. Medium biz who maybe looking at building brand awareness, which is really what radios about, would as MagnifB says use a multi channel provider.

What size of audience would a small online radio station get? Would it warrant a decent advertising spend, and make the venture viable. Your example of a recruiter will want a large audience I would have thought, unless its a niche audience and niche jobs? In which case less advertising revenue?

Thanks for the feedback.

The stations I am talking to, have a few thousand listeners, in the UK. They offer dirt cheap advertising rates, because they struggle to get advertisers on board.

The stations play mainstream chart music, so they appeal to a wider audience.

As part of the business idea, I would help the station's generate extra listener's, with another concept. This concept would cost the radio station next to nothing, but dramatically increase their traffic.

I think if you could offer advertisers a multimedia advertising system, which works, and allows them to calibrate the message.

Any more feedback is more then welcome

How did this go? any update?

Thanks,
Kevin.Wiles

To be honest, I am struggling with a heavy workload at the moment, and thinking of getting a partner to help me out.

Hi Lorna, we try and keep self promo to a minimum, but if you go to your user control panel you can add a signature with a weblink, which means you are a softselling every time you post.

Or if you have the urge for a full on sales pitch, then feel free to do it in the Village Market, which you can now use as you have gone over 10 posts

Please try not to bump old threads though unless it is something relevant.

Isn't this something that a professional media planner/buyer would do? Also a lot of the main stream ad agencies have all of this taken care of.
