We were referred to Bruce by a friend. Since my first email both Martin and Bruce were very responsive and we were extremely satisfied with Bruce's thoroughness, speed and attention to detail.

We were buying a house that seemed to be in pretty good shape, and although Bruce confirmed this, he also spotted problems that were very easy to fix, but that could have escalated quickly. It was really useful having the seller take care of these right away.

We also got a great idea of things to keep an eye for, and also things to start saving for, as they would require some attention in the next few years. The report we received will be a great reference to have. ( We also went through the report by phone which was also very helpful )

I had heard too many stories of surveyors "phoning it in", so I didn't mind paying on the higher end of the spectrum and knowing that I was getting a proper survey done. We were not disappointed and we highly recommend Bruce!

Great service, and very friendly rundown. I really appreciated the Skye call to go through the survey afterwards. This was a full structural and damp survey. They no longer provide a basic householders survey as it is a pointless service.

We were very lucky to get an appointment arranged that wasn't originally available due to Bruce freeing up some of his time off due to high demand, which was really kind. Very thorough report. The after Skype call was also very handy as it gave us the opportunity to discuss developments on the house we intended to do once moved in, and the best ways to do these. Really happy with the service. Martin was also very friendly and helpful upon arranging the appointments and keeping us updated before the Survey.

Bruce has surveyed 2 houses for me now and he?s been exceptionally thorough on both occasions. He will defintely tell you exactly how it is. The first house he told me straight up that I needed to walk away, which I did! He can be very to the point and not hold back, but he is reliable in what he tells you. He can tell you exactly what year the house was built just by looking at it, and almost has a sixth sense about where all the beams and pipes are! Would recommend.

Wonderful. Bruce and Martin both went out of there way to facilitate our survey. Access to the property was blocked by the vendors at last minute on three occasions causing great stress to myself and husband but Bruce and Martin remained calm and reassured us they would fit us in as soon as the situation resolved. They were flexible, professional and most importantly great communicators. Couldn?t recommend them more highly.

Friendly and helpful intro call with Martin; responsive too. Bruce did two surveys for me (the first house sale fell through). I have recommended him twice to friends already. I have just moved in and he seems to have caught everything except for a couple of small damp patches in the living room. Thanks Bruce and team.

Bruce did a very thorough survey on our house with fantastic attention to detail, and real consideration of the things that can be annoying when you move in, not just the big ticket items most surveyors concentrate on. Combined with a quick turn around, competitive price and willingness to go through the report in detail on the phone, I was really happy with the survey. I know there are lots of five star reviews here, but I struggled to find any category that didn't warrant full marks!

My second time using Bruce for a full building survey having been recommened by a couple of friends who had used. The first survey identified a number of structural defects that in the end I was not prepared to enter into. The second highlighted a number of areas for attention but were far more inline with expectations. Both times, comprehensive reports were produced within 24 hrs of the survey and they reflect a lot of work and expertise in the subject matter. I feel a lot more confident entering into a purchase following Bruce's advice on the condition of the underlying structure and other aspects like the roof which are difficult to examine on a viewing. I feel I have personally learnt a lot of useful knowledge from reading the reports and speaking to Bruce on Skype and have feedback on what maintenance to undertake on the new property.

First time I've bought an independant survey outside of the 'reccomened' surveys by mortgage companies etc, and I havr been super impressed.
The key to this was Bruce, not only a rapid service, (one week from call to survey), I had a huge report plus a Skype call follow up.
Bruce removed some fears about the property, but also pointed out some great positives.
I particularly liked his passion, urging me to keep original features and restore the property where we could back to its original beauty.

Thoroughly recommend this business, they have been a key resource, in what is the biggest purchase of our lives to date.

The company responded very promptly to our initial enquiry setting up the survey of a property in Bristol in the period just before Christmas. Bruce Marfell carried out a very thorough survey and produced a helpful report within a short space of time. Unfortunately he identified a number of issues with the property which meant we decided not to go ahead with the purchase.
Our conversation by Skype after receiving the report allowed us to ask a number of questions which have made us much more aware of what to look for before putting in an offer on a property in the future. We would certainly recommend the company.

Bruce surveyed a house I'm purchasing in Stoke Gifford. I'm so pleased I went ahead with the survey as it was very thorough and meant that I knew about issues that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. It also totally reassured me that buying the house is the right move and I feel totally informed about what work needs doing on it. I used Domestic Surveys and surveyor Bruce Marfell for a survey on my first flat purchase in Bristol. They were recommended by a colleague and were excellent from start to finish. This is the second time we have used Domestic Surveys (Bruce) this year. The first full survey identified a number of significant issues with the property and we were unable to renegotiate a sufficient price reduction to go forward with the purchase. When we found our next property, we got back in touch with Domestic Survey without hesitation. Bruce has just completed another survey for us and again he has demonstrated his skill and knowledge in identifying areas for improvement with the property; from a structural point of view, for reduced maintenance and for safety. When talking to him, his passion for this subject is obvious and it is evident how he cares for his clients. I could not recommend Domestic Surveys highly enough. I would not hesitate in using them again.

I got a number of quotes for a building survey and Domestic Surveys was very competitive. More than that though the service has been great; everyone I have spoken to has been clear and concise, responses are quick and detailed. No question is too big, small or ?stupid? which is exactly what I wanted as a first time buyer having never gone through this process before.
Bruce carried out my survey and produced a comprehensive report within 24 hours. The report was as easy to understand as possible (given the subject matter) and then I had a follow up call with him to go through the report so I could ask any remaining questions I had. Bruce really put my mind at rest about the property I am purchasing.

Bruce has recently carried out a full buildings survey on our property. It is our first purchase and we are over the moon with his service. I can high recommend his services. The survey was easily arranged and completed with the minimal amount of input from myself other than handing over the essential details of the property. The report was extremely thorough, well written and easy to understand. Just as valuable I found was a follow up Skype conversation I was offered where I was able to chat to Bruce about all the questions I had regarding the property and the findings of the survey. I found Bruce to be very knowledgeable, provided a great service and many useful pieces of advice. I am 100% sure this report is essential when buying a property rather than a standard homebuyer's report and at the price charged it is also extremely good value for money.

Bruce completed a full survey for me recently. The survey was arranged very quickly and the report produced within a couple of days. I then met with him to go through the relevant points raised. Bruce was extremely helpful in prioritising the work needed and answered all questions professionally and knowledgably. We had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Martin arranged everything very quickly - he knew we were working to a tight timeframe and responded promptly over the weekend and even called us on a Sunday evening to arrange everything. That's dedication! Bruce's surveying was extremely thorough. We have used Domestic surveys twice this year. The first was to arrange a party wall agreement. Jon was brilliant getting things arranged super quickly when we were informed of our neighbours plans and Bruce was very thorough throughout.
We were so impressed with their professionalism that we recently asked Bruce to survey a property we were planning to buy. His report was brilliant - extremely thorough and easy to understand and was invaluable when asking our builder to give us estimates. This is the first time we have used Domestic Surveys after a recommendation from a friend.
Our experience has been extremely positive from start to finish.
Bruce is obviously a very experienced surveyor and this came across in the report and the follow up call to discuss the report.

This the second time we've used Domestic Surveys (Bruce Marfell specifically). Both times Bruce has impressed us with his detailed, exhaustive approach. The first time, he discovered such a shocking list of issues with a property that we pulled out of our purchase, saving us a fortune in remedial work. The most recent survey was again very thorough. He highlighted a few issues that we have used to negotiate on price, but essentially found the property to be good and solid, and we are confident that his judgement is solid too. He cares about the work, and he looks out for his clients' interests, so I heartily recommend him and Domestic Surveys.

A professional and efficient operation - from first contact to having a comprehensive and detailed report in my hands was 10 days. And at what I considered a very reasonable price, rather lower than what I was expecting.

The individual surveyor, Bruce Marfell, has also been professional and efficient, answering followup questions from my self and my solicitor quickly and efficiently at no addional cost.

Our experience with Domestic Surveys has been positive from start to finish. Jan dealt with our enquiries in a timely and friendly manner, and with patience when we were messed around on dates by our vendor. Bruce carried out a very thorough survey and detailed report, including numerous photos. It was all pulled together quickly for us and the face to face chat was very helpful in giving us context and reassurance. Bruce gave a very thorough survey of the house we were about to purchase.. He spent a lot of time looking, photographing detailed aspects of the house. He was rather like a detective exploring all possibilities. He is obviously a very experienced surveyor and I can recommend his work. Bruce came afterwards to my house and over a cup of tea explained his findings and suggested what remedial work he thought necessary immediately what could wait until later. Such a relief to find someone to rely on.

Domestic Surveys (and Jon specifically) were recommended by a colleague who had recently used them and I have since thanked her very sincerely for the referral. The house we have since bought clearly needed some work (even to our inexperienced eyes) but the survey gave us the full picture of what we were taking on. Jon came round in the evening on the day of the survey and talked us through every aspect of what he had found at the property which was useful in itself but his advice and guidance as to the severity of the issues and how we would be able to rectify them was what took this from being an excellent service to being a truly outstanding service. My overall experience of dealing with Domestic Surveys, both with Jon doing the survey and Jan in the office has been positive form start to finish and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to others.

We had a full buisling survey conducted by Jon in July 2014 on a house purchase that we were going through. Jon was extremely thorough in conducting his survey and took 2-3 hours to run through the survey face to face with us which was great. Jon was very honest in his aproach and non alarmist which we much appreciated. There was no hard sell of his services. Once the report was issued to us he was only to happy to add further clarification to points made. Jan Scrine kept us in the loop throughout and was very helpful in getting us an appointment at short notice and kept us in the loop throughout. Having never had a building survey done before ( because of all the negative reviews out there) I was glad I did this time, not least because it will give me a list of things to look out for in the future. Jon went to extraordinary lengths to ensure no stone was left unturned (quite literally!) and flagged up some major concerns that we're sure others wouldn't have unearthed. We were given indepth feedback via Skype (we are not yet Bristol-based) and felt very satisfied that it was as comprehensive as could be. He ensured that we understood everything and offered excellent advice on how to proceed. We would (and will) highly recommend this service to anyone looking for a surveyor in the Bristol area. We recieved wonderful service from the whole team from start to finish. Fantastic!

We chose to use Domestic Surveys for a survey on a Victorian house in which we knew we would need to do work. Jon was extremely thorough in his inspection and looked at every available part of the house for us. He offered us invaluable advice about problem areas and was extremely knowledgeable about further problems that we may encounter. The service we have had thus far from both Jon and Jan have been impeccable and I could not recommend them enough.

From the word go, the team at domestic surveys have been fantastic. From Jan's emails updating and organising us through the process to Jon's unstoppable enthusiasm. The report is detailed and thorough and the face to face debrief allowed us to ask as many questions as we had. Jon explained everything with the patience of a saint. I would and will definitely recommend their service!

We asked Jon from Domestic Surveys for a full buildings survey on a modern house and this turned out to be one of the best decisions we have made. Jon did an extremely thorough job investigating every nook and cranny, using a pole-mounted camera to inspect the roof in detail, and providing us with the fullest possible information about the house. He then explained all his findings face-to-face with us on the same day, which gave us the chance to discuss some important issues in detail with him before receiving an extensive written report.

Overall, this was an impressive, friendly and professional service, very reasonably priced for the amount of work and time put in. In a world where a minimum level of service is often considered acceptable, it is refreshing to find someone determined to provide a top-notch service. If we ever need a surveyor again in the future, Jon will be the first person we call.

This is the second time that I have used Domestic Surveys in the last year and I have been really impressed with the service. On both occassions the surveys have been organised quickly and once Jon has completed the survey he has then gone through the results with us in detail which is really helpful. He is really enthusiatic about his job and he is very easy to get along with. All in all, they provide a really good service and if we move again in future I would definitely use this company.

During the recent storms, water was coming into the house and I couldn't see where from. Jon from Domestic Surveys came round and used the pole camera to see on the roof, we have a three storey house. He found out what the problem was, explained it to me clearly and offered to help with our insurance company. We were very pleased.
