Why can't SEO's be performance based? 8th January 2012 4:28 PM
Would you pay the local builder for an extension, before he started? A deposit maybe but you certainly wouldn't pay the full wack upfront, in the hope that you get what you are expecting for your money. Because you know the builder is never going to be seen again. Why should a customer gamble his/her money on what may or may not be achieved 3 months down the line? Only to be told on poor results, that if they chuck another couple of grand at it, they might achieve better results in another couple of months... Also I don't understand why the costs would be more expensive if it was results based. Why should the customer take the risk of poor substandard seo work?

For the builder I would use, yes, I would be happy to. They are not all cowboys and do a runner with your money you know. That said, I am referring to similar amounts paid. If someone wanted

It always boggles me why some people expect SEO to be done and results in, before you agree to pay for it. If you ask a company to design, print and distribute leaflets would you seriously tell them you will only pay on results? Of course not, but its the same principle. And they have just as much failure rate when done badly, be it poor design or delivered to wrong target market (or scattergun approach) yet nobody blames them and asks for their money back when they get no enquiries from them!

If I were to charge on results, I would have to increase my prices to account for the risk element of non-payers trying to pull a fast one, as its not something you can just take back. But that would make me uncompetitive and price out my local target market. So I stick to my guns of a fair price paid in advance, no contract.

All my clients are happy to pay me in advance and they are the type of clients I want, and want to retain month on month. None have balked at the idea of payment up front and my conversion is over 90% from enquiry to payment. Clearly, if you are in a non-contract situation and can see your positions climbing for your (good) keywords (and not "dancing green elephants chiswick"), then you will keep paying every month. The clue is not to sign up for a contract amount, or at least not to start with, until you can see they can produce results.

I agree, why use something (and pay for) else that tells you what your stats already tell you? I would say that may be useful on an interactive type of site to follow users around, but on your average website with typically static content, you will be none the wiser..and what is the end goal? After all, the only info you need is info that will enable you to make changes to respond to your web users in order to convert them. If you dont get that info, why bother?
Local SEO and Searches 8th January 2012 9:47 AM
I'd say unless you are wanting to buy something "online" such as from an ecommerce strore, or where the product or service comes from is irrelevant to you, then you will generally do a local search.
It is difficult if you don't understand all the steps involved plus you may need to alter some things on your website files when you transfer it to a new server. It's not always just download from old server, reload to new server and change nameservers. It depends what kind of website you are transferring as to what might need doing and there are things to make sure of to ensure a smooth transition.

I would always put the website on the new server and check it make sure everyhting is ok, then change nameservers over to point to our server, then after a few days, cancel the old hosting.

If you'd like a quote for web hosting, feel free to PM me.
