I took a look at the sites you've mentioned and also followed a few videos where they spoke about how semantics works and the code that works behind it. Its a really interesting topic (but then again I've always loved code Oo).

The problem is that I can still see a few holes in the theory as far as RDFa goes. You would use the code to sort out relationships and what not in a page, but you would still need to give the structure the information it needs, and therein lies the hole. Netherworld seo'ers and marketers would easily be able to use this to their own advantage methinks, using most of their old techniques in newer ways. For instance, linking one site to another, using RDFa. The more they have, the more information the search engines get, the faster they get to the top.

maybe I'm just being overtly cynical.
This is more or less what gets me everytime. Google may be trying to stop them getting more search results than they're supposed to, but the minute they release a new version of an algo or they focus on something other than seo, they figure out a way around it. I think it will work eventually, depending on all the tweaking involved, but they are still going to find a way to abuse this IMHO. And until that happens, forums are still going to be overrun with profile spammers and those trying to make a fast buck out of people that aren't as informed as the rest.

I understand that marketing isn't the cheapest out there, but a lot of networking can be done with just one's time invested and that in itself is a good thing. If I think about how much money these underworld seo'ers walk away with at the end of the day, it makes me cringe, because its a genuine marketing opportunity wasted, money they could have invested in something more stable than links that are only going to be around for 24 hours, if that.

Another thing I've been thinking about, is maybe finding a way to shift focus from SEO somehow, and I know thats going to be an impossible task in itself. but maybe focusing more on marketing, giving out reliable information to folks new to it all could in some way help. I guess that's all a dream for now anyway.
Does god hate me? 17th June 2013 9:45 AM
I hope you feel better soon

I was asking myself that question for the last month almost. Been stuck under acute bronchitis and have had more antibiotics in the last month, than I've had ever.

Think you'd have to ask Clive abt the goatee though,
I guess, in a way, this is more of a rant than an actual question, but I have been thinking lately, that forums especially seem more geared towards SEO than anything else...

Is this because of all the SEO companies out there that are trying to find work? or the rogue SEO's trying to make more money from people that don't understand what SEO is all about? Or is marketing genuinely not a serious issue when it comes to an online business?

See, the way I think is that seo is a small slice of a bigger picture and that you only need to take care of the basics, and then start with marketing campaigns to start building reputation and trust in the company and the product/s that are being offered, and even I realise that there is a little SEO in that as well, it just seems more geared on the SEO part of it all and hang the reputation and trust part. Oo or is it just me seeing this?

What would be more important to you?. Getting links strewn everywhere your niche is online, or building a reputation for yourself and your company and letting that lead to others helping you build links back to your site?

Maybe I'm just an old goat, or medieval, as I mentioned in a previous post, but it seems that SEO is the shortcut people are using most because it can be done quickly, and marketing is on the backburner somehow. I can understand though, I mean it takes a lot of effort to get campaigns off the ground and to keep at them all consistently. Maybe you can help me change my mindset on this, show me why SEO should be relied on more than marketing, or vice versa.
Lead Generation Ideas 15th June 2013 10:09 AM
I would network. Its one of the best ways to generate leads I think. MLS gets its business from google mostly because its a directory and relies on where the listings are in searches. For any other type of business, I would definitely look at SEO, but focus more on getting the company name out there networking in forums, social networks etc.

I mean, if you can create a presence for yourself and your company on a social network, then you're halfway there. People will hear what you have to say, see what you do online, and if you can build trust they might even start referring people to you. (IMHO of course)
Do you use Quora? 15th June 2013 10:04 AM
I had a look at the site and it seems like it could be useful, but I don't think anchor texting is the way to go with this. Call me a little medieval, but I would take the safe route with this and work on your profile that everyone sees, instead of trying to spam a post with links, which would run the risk of being removed, or worse, your profile.

I see a lot of people giving out advice with sites like these, particularly yahoo where they tell you to anchor text the bejeebers out of an answer so that you have quick live links running. I just think that there is a much better way of handling it than using it merely for anchor text and SEO. I can see a genuine marketing opportunity in it.

What I would do, is fill out my profile, and use it to add information about the company I work for. First thing that will happen there is that people will associate me with the company. Then the tricky part. Establishing myself as an authority of sorts. Once people can associate you with a company, they start looking at what you write and the answers you give. And reputation is then worked out accordingly. I would also not stay in one particular niche. I would help where I can and answer anything from gaming to rocket science, if I can find a decent answer online (researching). It also gives people the impression that you truly care and want to help out, enforcing your profile just that extra little bit. If you can go that extra bit to help someone find an answer or make a decision, they will thank you (most often) and people see this.

After all that, people will be curious (if not from the get go), and they will look at your profile, and if your profile is interesting enough, or makes them even more curious, you have more visitors, and if they are out there looking for what you sell, you would have more targeted traffic you can make conversions out of.

my 2c, and IMHO
