Just seen this on the BBC website, a baking company has refused to take a Gay Cake order as they are devote Christians, are quoted as saying "The directors and myself looked at it and considered it and thought that this order was at odds with our beliefs"

The full story is here - BBC News -  but it begs a question, can you legally turn down a customer in our hyper sensitive nanny state in 2014?

I would have thought that any business can turn down or reject business for a variety of reasons, without fear of the PC brigade breaking your door down, or am i talking rubbish?

At the very least if you are forced to quote for the business would you not just inflate your costs and make it unattractive or is this bad practice too?

Is this really a case for the Equality Commission or is it (being cynical) someone who has sniffed an opportunity of making a few £'s quickly from a hard working business who are standing up for what they believe in.

Could rant on & on about this and re-post it under rants, but want to keep the post under business discussion as i think it has ramifications for all businesses that have set beliefs as it appears you cant bring those to work.

Edit to earlier post -

If you do turn up with a discharged device, according to Heathrow Security you will directed to the nearest shop where you can purchase a charger & then charging point to allow you to charge said item

If you want you can utilise the Mail and Fly facility which you can mail your item home at your expense or it will be held at its warehouse for around 40 days

25 mile detour - thats some going !

There was 2.5million watching over the weekend up north.

My home Town, Redditch, hosts one of the races for the cycling road race "Tour Series". Its mayhem on that night, usually late May,  but its only for one night but still has a massive knock on effect as they close the town centre down.

Gadgets are hot on the list for tougher security checks for USA flights i was reading on Ceefax this morning.

If you can't power up your device at the Security check at the airport its not travelling with you! Didn't state what happened to the device if you couldn't power it up.

Whilst i get the increased risks and welcome any security that keeps me safe whilst 10's of thousand of feet in the air i wonder what would happen if i used my battery up playing games/texting/emailing etc sat in the airport.

Wonder if i would be allowed to charge the phone in the security check to prove it wasn't a dummy device?

Did actually think of you when i saw the news this morning about the Tour going through London ..

Does seem a trifle idiotic, there again, guess Boris saw an opportunity to make more money...?

I was always led to believe that a horse can use a public highway, simply because they have been around longer than a propelled vehicle. Although motorists generally pay for the road, if we ban horses should we ban pedestrians and cyclists too? As to the horse mess they don't leave anywhere near the amount of mess as some humans do on a Friday or Saturday night...

Good point - although with the exception of leaving a bit of a gap you dont have to slow down going passed them. Horses you do, or should.

Must admit the roads i use don't seem to be that littered by humans but do see the news and TV programmes that follow clean up companies on a Saturday night in the major cities. A job i could never do is clean up the dreaded "pavement pizza"

All credit to those workers that shovel the crap that our alleged civilsed society throw on the ground rather than find the nearest bin whilst paralytic.

When greed takes over ... 7th July 2014 10:01 AM

I was going along the lines of where the possessions get left & to whom.

In my fathers case, most of the assets went to my mother but there were gifts to a couple of extended family members and one ex family member, thats what grated me but as i said it wasnt up to me, wasnt my money so i just carried out his last wishes.

According to the story i commented about above, it seems that if you don't like that decision of the Will (effectively your relative) you challenge it in a Court and let them decide on the fate of the deceased assets - whats the point in having a Will if anyone can challenge it.

I didn't challenge my fathers Will and respected his final wishes and even though i may not have agreed with them it still wasn't my money anyway, so what would have given me the right to challenge it?

Why do so many families fall out over inheritances - it so belittles the deceased's life IMHO

Google - The Ministry of Truth? 4th July 2014 4:08 PM

Was reading about this earlier although will confess - it got technical so i glazed over ..

From what i could extract it appears that the good ol' G gods have spat their dummy and are removing content all over the place in a direct retort to the EU Regulation, although Google themselves deny this.

Think this will rumble on for sometime.

New aircraft carrier launched 4th July 2014 3:52 PM

The Queen has officially cracked a bottle of whiskey ( oh the waste ), not champagne on her new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth.

5 years on from its announced project go live, it seems costs have spiraled out of control, from its original figure of £3.9bn to a projected cost of £6.2bn - how on earth has it gone so wrong?

Thats not just a couple of %, which even then would be millions, we are talking about over a 60% increase in price.

Can you imagine if you quote for a contract and then say half way through, actually i got it wrong and its going to be a bit more, well no 60% more, i think you'd be out of business soon.

In a business world this cant be right, can it?

Oh dear, local Councillor took it upon herself to intimidate a horse and rider, allegedly trotting along on the village green, which she states they were doing so illegally.

If you want the full story then here it is,  BBC News but i wanted to ask a separate question -

Why is it that horses are allowed to use the public road that us motorists have to pay taxes on. They expect us to slow down in case we spook their horses and worst still are allowed to crap all over the road which splats all up the wing & inside of my wheel arch.

Why 1) are they allowed to use the road & 2) why aren't they forced to clear their mess up, much like dog owners?
