PostsBritish Tourists face upsetting Locals ! 8th August 2014 3:53 PM Well you learn something everyday! This is another one of ours - had me in stitches !!!! "It is illegal under the terms of the Prohibition and Inspections Act of 1998 to cause a nuclear explosion." lmao Scottish Independence and the UK picks up the debt bill? 8th August 2014 2:09 PM LMAO Well he has been told to come up with an alternative NHS refuse to use new cancer drug 8th August 2014 11:47 AM This article caught my eye, as its a subject close to my heart, with my Mum having survived 2 bouts of breast cancer. It appears that a new drug, Kadcyla, adds 6 months to the average life span of a woman diagnosed with the aggressive terminal form of breast cancer, HER2-positive, that has spread to other parts of the body and surgery is not an option At a whopping £90,000 per patient the NHS advisory board NICE have taken a swipe at the drugs manufacturer, Roche, for not offering the drug at a more affordable price. NICE have stated they need a discount of 60%. The manufacturers have hit back and said that they have offered it at an undisclosed lower figure. Common sense must prevail here and NICE and Roche must carry on talks. My Mum fought and won her battle against her cancer but I know i'd be fuming if I thought there was a drug that could potentially help her and it wasnt being offered due to a spat on price between the NHS and a drug company. Who is right though? The NHS simply cannot afford the kind of money that Roche are after. Roche are a company that naturally needs to make profit as a business. Technology Rules Ok! 8th August 2014 11:06 AM You keep your bugs your side thanks very much ! Scottish Independence and the UK picks up the debt bill? 8th August 2014 10:27 AM Bit of a thread bump .... Just seen on the BBC website that Alex Salmond is insisting he is keeping the pound as Scottish Currency still threatening not to share the National Debt if he doesn't get his own way. Seems he wants to pick and chose what parts of the UK Scotland wants to keep & dump. Only weeks away now from finding out what happens, although it has to be said i'm pretty bored of all the hype surrounding it, as are a lot of the Scots by all accounts. Prince William to join the Air Ambulance 7th August 2014 2:00 PM Just seen on the News that the Prince will join East Anglians Air Ambulance early next year as his main job, although it will rotate around his duties he undertakes on behalf of the Queen. He will be paid a salary, but this will be donated back to the Charity in full, its been reported. So if you are unfortunate enough to need the Air Ambulance from Spring 2015, check whos in the co -pilot seat - you never know ......... British Tourists face upsetting Locals ! 7th August 2014 1:47 PM This is a must read article, if like me you are off to sunny climates in the near future. (I'm off to Corfu Monday Have to be honest, never even gave it a thought to check any local Laws, so focused as i was about actually having my 1st holiday abroad for 3 years. Seems us Brits have a habit of getting ourselves in to trouble without even realising it - for example the report states its against local laws to wear camouflage clothing in Barbados and you can get yourself into hot water if you drive a dirty car in Russia! Some 70% of people interviewed (out of 1000 peeps) stated that investigating local customs would probably improve their trip, only 40% said they actually did! Does anyone else go off blind or do you do any research, other than visa requirements? I'm off to check the local Laws of Corfu to be on the safe side Schumacher Medical Notes Stolen 7th August 2014 12:37 PM It appears the individual that was suspected of taking the notes has hung himself in Custody, Swiss Police have said. Whilst its beyond contempt what this individual tried to do, its never nice to read that they have taken their own life rather than face up to the allegations. Things have gone quiet from the Schumacher camp, hoping he continues to recover away from the glare of the intense media interest. Russia sabre rattling? 7th August 2014 12:11 PM Just seen reports that Russia have carried out there recent threat to ban imports from the EU, USA, Canada & Australia in retort to sanctions imposed on them. Russia are apparently now considering banning airlines from Siberian airspace meaning increases in both flying time and costs for traffic bound to Asian areas. So this has to be bad news for business. Anyone Asia bound in the coming weeks? Interesting to see how this pans out. Here's hoping we are not entering a new Cold War Era Do you spend more time with technology than sleeping? 7th August 2014 9:51 AM A new study suggests that Britons now spend more time on media devices than they do sleeping. They suggest that we spend around 8 hours, 41 minutes on a tech device and 8 hours 21 minutes sleeping. It went on to state that, of the average teenager only 3% use a telephone, (landline) and only 8% send email. Embarrassingly a 6 year old allegedly has the same understanding of technology as an average 45 year old! Did make me smile though that they can come up with the figures from such a small demographic of just 2800 participants. |
