The end of the Probation Service 16th January 2013 7:57 PM
Had time to think and thought I would explain my earlier rant in a proffesional way....I Thank you in advance for taking the time to read it...

Ok academics, theorists, criminologists, psychologist, researchers, professors, sociologists and scholars that include Cesare Lombroso, Edwin Sutherland, Marx and Engels (to name but a few) have pondered the question of crime and criminality for many years.

Various theories have emerged that include Lombroso's general theory suggesting that criminals could be distinguished from non-criminals by multiple physical anomalies (sad but true). In more recent times Social conflict theorists believe a person, group, or institution has the power and ability to exercise influence and control over others.

Conflict theorists are also concerned with:
1. The role a government plays in

So basically I'm getting the impression you're not that impressed with Chris Grayling? <runs for cover...>

Sadiq Khan, the shadow justice secretary, said the move was a "reckless gamble with public safety" which "risks importing all of the failures of the Work Programme into our criminal justice system".

"Our probation service does a good job in difficult circumstances on very stretched budgets," he said.

"Pilots were already underway to see if payment by results worked and to ensure any problems were ironed out before a full scale roll out.

"The new Justice Secretary, Chris Grayling, has demonstrated a breathtaking arrogance in choosing to ignore or simply cancel the pilots.

"Rushing into payment by results in probation is a danger both to the offenders themselves who might not receive the rehabilitation support they require, and to the safety of communities up and down the country.
If you want to make prison work, you need to make them hell holes so that people don't want to go back. From what I've read people, having been jailed once, have no fear of returning as they know full well that they will be looked after better on the inside than what they will on the outside. Three meals a day, a choice of meals on the menu. Television, telephone, drugs, access to libraries, social workers, probation officers, religious preachers, gyms, snooker, table tennis, dental treatment, healthcare and a bed. You don't get this at your local Travel Lodge apart from the bed and television....

Oh don't get me going on that one, I spend a lot of my time on the wings listening to serving prisoners moaning and whinging about conditions and the lack of any meaningful stimulus, how unfair the judicial system process is and why it is pointless locking them up. Had a few who openly accept that they get locked up over winter because its cheaper for them! One inmate told me he uses prison to give himself a break form his family because they all do his head in...Chris Grayling however wants to build titan prisons (despite America scrapping the idea) and he wants all short term prisoners to be supervised by tree hugging do-gooders who will work for

So far so good. Cravings so far are still manageable. Its 2 days from now that worries me. They say day 3 is the worst as ur nicotineless? Ah well thats wot they told me anyhoo lol.

Thanks guys. I couldn't do this without your support.

You are already counting in days......now that's progress. Get through that barrier of 3 days and it definitely gets easier, you even laugh about your ups and down after the first week. Keep going, we are are all thinking about you.
Although a super prison would be much more cost effective,

They are not, America tried it. Labour were going to build "3" Titan prisons until the Americans witnessed wholesale rioting, increased suicides, murder and mayhem. The prisons produced "harder" more aggressive and entrenched criminals who developed better networks within the prison system. Net result, increase in crime post release, this equates to a bigger police budget, more work for the Courts and now that the Probation Service has gone, even more work for G4S.
No conflict of interest there then?

Even more reason to get my wife's ink and toner business going....I guess have about 12 months before I get measured for my G4S uniform, I would like to tell them where to put it...

Suspect Group 4 etc will do an absolutely splendid job of transforming your low risk petty offenders into high end threats and new business for you Sharpink! thumbsdownthumbsdown

Chris Grayling (my so called boss and minister for justice) is a complete and utter retard if he thinks that Group4 can do a better job at managing low and medium risk cases. I suspect the remit should be lets do it cheaply and put lives at risk.
OK he argues that mentoring for short term prisoners is the way forward, guess what? The Probation Service has nevber done this becuase we don't have the capacity or the funding or remitt for this, so you wont save money there!

That said, a much cheaper alternative would be to stop sending low risk minor offenders to prison in the first place (at a cost of

Public flogging if they are caught, bring back the stocks for these scum !!!

no the future is private sector, payment by results outfits who will I have to be very nice to their offenders, they will encourage compliance, give them tea and biscuits and thank them for turning up to group hugging sessions.
If you are rude or nasty then you wont get paid will you....
