Think the key to getting people to add you is the same as any social platform post useful, helpful or funny stuff. This will make them more inclined to want to follow you.

Hmm it is a worrying trend.

We did a post back in August which has a good link to SEO MOz blog about SERP Shrinkage.

Organic Search Results are shrinking!

But 95% ads is a bit alarming! Be good if he could get a screen shot

he has a screenshot and more info on the post if your interested to read it here's the post Google Stoops to a New Low!

The good thing is that you're gaining followers at least . Maybe you could build on that and give them info/vids to link to as well. Have them share more when they visit your profile?

Cool its just not that easy to coax them into joining your circles in the beginning I'm thinking. Once you get past that hurdle, its all systems go?

Yeah that's the problem. Was watching an interesting webinar the other day where the guy said you could do it by offering something free for them to add you, a good eBook or something or adding them to your personal profile circles which he said makes them more inclined to add you to theirs. Once they are in your personal circles your business circles become more prominent to them and likely to add that to their circles as well. That was his theory but haven't tried it yet.
Once they add you to there circles you can then add them to yours.

A rather worrying thing happened today to a blog owner I follow in New Zealand. When he was doing a search on Google the result page was 95% ads yes 95%. Worse to follow because before the organic listings was searches related to keywords which brought up a new page with guess what yes more ads.

It's thought this is a test for the next Google update.

I think this shows the greed and hypocrisy of Google, after all they are the ones who punished sites for having adverts above the fold yet they are returning search pages with 95% ads.

Matt Cutts from Google keeps telling us put out quality sites and you will be ok I didn't know quality meant spend money on Google ads.

Advanced Google Analytics Tutorial 22nd October 2012 5:50 PM
Avinash Kaushik is the world leader in Google Analitics another top man in the field is Matt Bailey there is a great video of him speaking at a Google convention where he talks about Analytics according to captain kirk, don't think I can post a link to it being a new member but it's easy to find on you tube.

I saw him speak when he came to Glasgow and he is informative and entertaining. Definitely worth checking out.

On a Google+ business page you cant add people to your circles until they add you to theirs. I have no idea why they have made it like this seems crazy to me but that's Google for you.
Article Writing Is It Still Worth Doing! 22nd October 2012 10:27 AM
It still works - to a point, with risks.

Article marketing was a great way to build links a while back, but since the invention of spinning and spamming using spinning techniques its something that's been killed - almost.

It can still play a part in the overall mix, and now and then you can get some traction if the articles good - but would you really want to waste a 'good' article in this way when there are much better, stable options for your article?

Plus, with article marketing you run the risk of loosing rankings if all your eggs are in that basket. I remember when the first grisly, polar er I mean panda update came out and it killed lots of well used article directories and stripped links pointing to sites loosing their hard earned ranks.

Even ezine was hit hard to a point where they had to restructure their own site to claw back what they had lost. So will that happen again - probably. Would I rely on article marketing on its own - no.

Totally agree, it still has merits but should not be relied on alone. It has to be used in conjunction with other methods.
lol don't mind me, I just love debating. It's all part of being a redhead I guess.

The whole technique might have been a gray area yes, but at the same time it became BH. The reason I say this is that in the beginning, when the fad hit, it was a good idea to have a domain that was an EMD to the keyword you used. People created these, and started adding content and building backlinks etc. just like they would with any other site. When the rogue SEO's saw that it actually had a really good effect on the SERP's, they decided to do what we all do. Build sites, create content, start backlinking. The only problem is that they do what they usually do. Laden the site with low quality content, blast links back to their domain, and who knows what else so that their site gains rank and keeps that top spot.

Google saw this and decided to put a stop to it. Just like they did with the meta keywords, blog networks, and everything else that seemed ok to use at the time.
See the pattern? Google gives us the means to rank our sites, gain our own little corner of the web, Rogue SEO's come along and take over, and Google axes it. Taking other innocent sites with them in the process. The authority of an EMD has been declining a lot over the last 2 or so years. That alone shows that the EMD update was already on its way out. With the decline of the EMD yearly, it showed that Google was giving less and less value to those domains, because of the way it was being abused (one can only guess ).

Great point about rogue SEO's as I believe they are what ultimately cause the damage. Google were trying to get rid of low quality spammy sites with this update but got it wrong again. The good news is high quality sites seem to recover quite quickly. Keep adding high quality content and sites should prosper as Google want to see sites updated regularly.
It just goes to show how powerful social media can be and used properly can be a great benefit to the small business.
