After walking to the Nettleham Post Office and standing waiting in the queue for 10 minutes I finally got to the position where I could see a notice saying there was no second class stamps available. The notice said there may be some available later in the day. I walked back home still carrying my Christmas cards. At 3pm that same day and rang the Post Office asking if any second class stamps had come in only to be told they haven't. I understand they had been ordered urgently a few days previously but still had not arrived. The same thing happened last Christmas as well. For this to happen two years in a row is inexcusable and points to poor management by the people responsible for supplying stamps to the local Post Offices. I am sure if this happens every year, and I assume Nettleham is not the only Post Office to be waiting for second class stamps, I imagine the Post Office makes a nice little "bonus" from people having to buy first class stamps for their Christmas cards. Poor customer service by the Post Office and an unnecessary expense for the Post Offices customers at what is a very expensive time of the year. I understand the last day for 2nd class post for letters to arrive in time for Christmas is today so even if the 2nd class stamps arrive tomorrow it will be too late. Win, win for the Post Office who will make more money from selling 1st class stamps because they failed to supply enough 2nd class stamps again this year. What I ask myself is this accidental or deliberate for it to happen at least two years in a row to my knowledge. I am a pensioner on limited funds and can ill afford the extra it will cost me to buy 1st class stamps. Not that that will bother the managers the Post Office I would imagine.
