Let me take you back to October 2016 winter was just about to begin, which was the worse for me. My days consisted of waking at 5 am to carry out paperwork, leaving the house at 7am and returning 12 hours later for dinner only to go out again for a few hours to fix more appliances. I’d get home at 10pm and sit at the computer again till 12 to complete more paperwork. Ready to go again at 5.
I was exhausted all the time; my family didn’t know who I was. I was a stranger in my own home. And my customers where suffering as well. This was not how my business was supposed to be!
So, picture this, I’m servicing a boiler that was supply the heat for a swimming pool. The cool blue water looked so inviting and late autumn sun was shining on my back. I knew I had 6 jobs still to do and that if I was lucky, I might get home for 7pm. At that moment I was low, customers were unhappy with my service, my wife was unhappy because she didn’t see me, my children didn’t know me, and I was just existing. It was at that moment when I had a phone call from a Kiwi named Pete, he was a business coach that had called a few times, but I was dismissive, what could he possibly know about my trade! When I was on the phone with him, I told him if he wanted my business to call at 8pm as id be free to take his call. His response NO! ill be with my family.
NO! how dare he I thought. But that night as sat at my computer again doing work a tear rolled down my cheek. I was jealous. Pete was relaxing with is family and was not! I rang him the next day and I started being mentored.
Fast forward to now and Clarke’s Gas Services have a structured team of individuals both within the office and out in the field, delivering high quality service that is being recognised by business leaders in Kent, in fact we were awarded best construction business and were finalists for bust customer service in the canterbury awards 2024, and last year we were shortlisted for best construction business and best family business.
