Here at Olivemead Forge in the beautiful village of Dauntsey Wiltshire, Blacksmith John Beavis strives to keep the traditional craft of the English Blacksmith alive. Using tools and techniques that have been handed down through the centuries from Blacksmith to Blacksmith. All of his hand forged work is carried out to the highest of standards which has resulted in accreditation's from the "Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths".
Each piece that is undertaken that require joining is constructed in the traditional way using tenons / rivets / fire-welding / collars / screws / wrapping / pinning or nut and bolt.
His range of forge work is extensive; Railings - Gates - Fire baskets - Fire irons - Log baskets - Door furniture - Bill hooks - Axes- Adzes - Hunting knives - Window furniture - Garden furniture - Fire screens - Nails - Period iron restoration projects - coat and pot hooks and much more all hand forged in hot coals kept burning by hand pumped bellows.
Commissions have come from all over the British isles. The National Trust - members of the National Hedge Laying Society - Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and many private customers to name just a few.
We also offer a mending / welding service to the agricultural community and a service for sharpening tools
