Staff Motivation

By Martin Chick, THE MULBERRY GROUP

Keeping staff motivated is good for business-FACT and here are just some reasons:

  • Motivated workers are more productive and higher productivity usually means higher profits.
  • In a service industry, workers who are well motivated will provide a better levelof customer service, keeping your customers happy.
  • Staff who are well motivated are more likely to stay with the company. They grow in experience and become even more valuable to their employer.
  • If a business successfully retains the staff it has, the cost of having to recruit and train new staff is significantly reduced.

At Mulberry, we have some great ideas to keep staff happy, these do not necessarily involve spending vast sums of money but will have a high perceived value by your staff. Consider your staff, put yourself in their shoes and understand what makes a difference to them – it isn't always money!

  • A Dry cleaning collection – simple. Staff bring in their cleaning to the office on a Tuesday, it's returned clean by Friday. You choose if you pay for all of it, some of it or better yet, run a voucher system over the year, when all the vouchers are used up, staff  can still use the service but pay for their own.
  • Car cleaning. We all like to drive a clean car, so incentivise staff to 'earn' a free car valet once a week / month. There are a number of mobile valeting companies who would be more than happy to negotiate a regular income source from a local company!
  • Birthdays – it doesn't have to cost a lot and almost every business has a record of their employees birthday – have a computer programme flag it to the office manager / personnel officer (this may be impractical for many large organisations) but where possible, make that employee feel wanted sending a simple card, a bunch of flowers or a bottle of wine really will be appreciated.

The Bigger Stuff……

Incentive Trips Abroad

There's nothing like a trip abroad to make employees feel special and inspire their loyalty. By relying on the creativity, experience, organisational skills and knowledge of your chosen event management company,  your team can experience a truly memorable trip and you can be safe in the knowledge that the incentive will be purpose 'built' around your staff. We don't believe in delivering mediocrity.

Customer Service Award Ceremonies

This is the ultimate way of ensuring that your staff feel appreciated by the business and allows them to be recognised for their efforts and achievements in front of and by their peers. Awards ceremonies do not have to be expensive – but they DO have to be professional and they DO have to be prestigious.

Andy Warhol once said that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes……..this is a way that your staff can be famous

Staff motivation is an issue that needs to take into consideration many elements and we would be happy to discuss any requirements you have. Please contact us if you would like to develop a programme for your staff:
