Kumon is an after school study programme in maths and/or English.  The full programme goes from pre-school up to A level and beyond.  Children do a diagnostic test to find out where on the programme they need to start and then start at an "easy starting point" to ensure there are no gaps in their education and then progress at their own pace.  Work is set individually based on the student's needs. 

It is a daily study programme and students are given a workbook to complete or every day.  This should take approximately 10-15 minutes per subject and can be done before or after school.  The classes are run to support the programme and students can attend once or twice a week, it is a drop in centre and they are usually in class for half an hour for one subject and 40 minuites for two approximately.  Work is provided through school holidays and the programme runs 365 days per year.

In class students will complete their work for that day, do oral reading if studying English, oral maths if studying maths and do a number board and receive individual feedback from the Instructor who will also set their future work based on their progression.

Kumon is a long term study plan.  Children are coached to work above their school level and this can be achieved within 12 months to two years depending on ability and determination.  Children receive motivation, and awards for mastery of levels and for achievement of their goals.
